At the risk of being slightly biased, I have nothing but good things to say about Ayen Cottage & it's wonderful proprietors. I am in fact a local to the area and have known Carole & Barry for a good while now. A friend and I stayed with them for a night recently and were well looked after. We stayed... More

We stayed here for one night on 1st August while in islay for a wedding. Carole was just so welcoming and kind from the get go. The house is gorgeous and our room was fantastic. Bed was very very comfy and we didn't want to get up! Had a room with an ensuite shower room which was lovely and clean... More

What can I say...fantastic all round place to stay, in its quitet location, located close to the Port Askaig makes touring the Island easily accessible to go off and explore. Carole and Barry are fab hosts...they went out of there way to make us feel welcome and what a welcome we recieved. :) The breakfast is lovely. Nothing was a bother... More

I can't say enough about this place mainly because of Carole and Barry. They were top notch. The food was terrific! I think she may have been a tad annoyed with us because each morning we paired down our breakfast order! Seriously good, home style food. They went out of their way to make us welcome. Their good humor, local... More

Ayen Cottage is perfectly situated as both ports are only a short drive away and you can perfectly explore Islay with its beautiful landscape and its famous distillieries. Quiet place with a lovely sitting area. Breakfast was very good and lovely decorated. Barry and Carole were very friendly and helpful - both before and during our stay there!

what a beautifull place and what a nice people! Carole has all the skills and personality to make a stay at her B&B a highlight. She is a good cook (perfect and attractive presented breakfast), the house is clean and pretty furnished, but she is allso a very warm and attentive person. She and Barry did everything to make you... More

My boyfriend and I stayed here for 4 nights while on Islay and we were 'bowled over' with this B&B! Never have we felt so comfortable and welcome. Carole is wonderful, providing perfect breakfasts and good conversation each morning. The shared space is the perfect way to get to know everyone better! We will never stay anywhere else on Islay.... Carole was very helpful. She knew everything that was going on around the island, booked restaurants and visits for us, and made sure that my elderly parents were comfortable and entertained. Ayen Cottage is centrally situated within Islay (not that anywhere is very far from anywhere else), with good views and plenty of birdlife nearby. It is more than a... More

Warm and friendly welcome, great breakfast, try the kippers! Carole always supplies you with the best information about places to see (or not to see). She made a reservation for us in Katie´s Bar and our conversation was always a pleasure, we would definitely come back one day!

Stayed 4 nights and accessed Colinsay and Jura on day trips. Lovely and clean, very pleasant service, well presented breakfast and loads of it. Shared table worked for us and we really enjoyed our breakfast chats with fellow travellers from London (via Ayrshire), Cotswolds (via New Zealand) and Chicago.
