This is a pretty ordinary building in an amazing position. We thought it was best thought of as a good restaurant with rooms available. The restaurant is large and caters for coachloads of people either passing through or staying one night on a tour. The Smorgasbord is excellent, both at breakfast and in the evenings. The restaurant staff are lovely... More

The exterior of this hotel gives no clue as to what awaits inside. Delightfully old-fashioned and quaintly furnished with a mix of both antique and modern, comfortable furniture and a great collection of bric a brac, with log fires burning in the public rooms, this biggest surprise is the view! Not to be missed. The food in the dining room... More

We stayed two nights at this hotel during our two week trip to Norway. It was just the right amount of time, if you love being outdoors. We took the hike to Nali, which my husband and I both thought was the most beautiful hike we had ever taken. A bit dicey in places, but we did not think our... More

Outdated - in need of refurbishment and modernisation. Book Fretheim in Flåm or Walaker instead. Stalheim Hotel is part of the chain "The Historic Hotels". Their vision is to be of i.e "high quality throughout", "exquisite food" and "more than just a hotel bed and a meal". Well, apart from the fantastic views of the valley, the hotel falls short... We only visited and had lunch but this time capsule of a traditional hotel laid on a smashing buffet lunch with a huge variety of well presented and tasty dishes. There is a small gift shop and lounges full of antique furnishings. But the VIEW is pure magic - an absolutely exceptional vantage point for a view down the UNESCO-listed... More

To break up our Norway in a Nutshell tour, we decided to stay at the Stalheim Hotel, even though there is less to do up in the mountains than would be down by the fjord. The hotel is a historic building (after having rebuilt several times over the years), and the lobby/lounge looks a bit like a museum for Nordic... More

We came to this hotel as part of a tour provided by Princess Cruise Lines. We drove from Flaam to the hotel that sits high above the Naeroy Valley. The current hotel dates from the 1960s but hotels have been on this site since the 1600s. Why? Because the view is spectacular. During WWII the hotel site housed the German... More

This hotel has one of the best views in the world! Yes it is an old hotel and may not look so special from the outside but charm is not always based on appearance. Take time to have a drink in the bar and take in the vista and walk around the lobby to see the art and learn of... More

Stalheim Hotel is located in natural surroundings and in the heart of the Norwegian fjords, and it is an ideal starting point for tours of Western Norway's fjords and mountains. We really enjoyed our stay at the hotel but don't expect too much as you get facilities in a hotel of a metro city. Here they have their limitations. Even... More

The Stalheim is a tired and under-maintained hotel that is clearly being milked for its name and view. A real shame: gorgeous view: but you know what, there are gorgeous views all through the fjords. This hotel was probably at its prime 30 years ago and even a basic maintenance budget would keep it in order: this hasn't happened. The... More
