So late, so late, we called ahead to say we were delayed. Eileen said not to worry - she would wait 'til midnight if necessary! So friendly. So unusual for the modern age! We arrived not knowing what was in store and were greeted by a kitten trying to escape through the from door! Eileen's welcome was so warm, so... More

In short: Lovely cats, Beautiful garden, Large bedroom, Countless ornaments, Two donkeys, Hearty breakfast The owner uses the revenue she makes from the B&B to rescue animals - reason enough to pay her your money 😃👍

I stayed here with Eileen and her 5 gorgeous cats and in her home with a beautiful garden.Gilbert and George the rescue donkeys were snug in their stable where I visited them. If you want, the cats will come to bed with you! (I did) The gardens are open to the public through the Open Garden Scheme and I'm not... More

This was our 4th visit to Thornley House. Eileen is always welcoming and my daughter loves having a little room of her own next to ours. We love the cats and the donkeys - we have to go to feed Sid and Gilbert every time we visit. Allendale is a beautiful spot in Northumberland, and this is a great place... More

Lovely B and B in idyllic spot ten miles from Hexham and near Allendale village. Eileen is a wonderful hostess with an eccentric vision all of her own. Cats and donkeys and glorious garden. Very quiet spot and despite all the animals, the B and B is spotless and we had a brilliant breakfast. Great base for walking and would... More

This bed and breakfast is the result of the proprietor Eileen's vision to create the best possible environment for guests, cats and donkeys. The large garden (with paddock and adjacent wood) has nooks and crooks for sitting in the sun or shade reading - with flower beds galore, a little stream and pond, berries, a pear tree. Perfect idyl. The... More

We stayed one night after a family wedding in Hexham. Eileen is a most welcoming, slightly eccentric but wonderful hostess who made us feel completely at home. We slept like logs and woke up to a great breakfast and a happy walk round the garden and the chance to feed apples to the two donkeys (Sidney and Gilbert). The cats... More

What a wonderful 2 nights stay at the end of June. Many thanks to Shirley who made us very welcome with tea and cakes on arrival. The room was lovely and the bed super comfortable. It wasn't a disadvantage to have an external bathroom which was stunning original art deco. A perfect base for exploring Hadrian's wall and only a... More
