we had just been for a lovely walk to stainforth foss, and decided we would have a drink and a bite to eat,on arrival found the landlord to be most unwelcoming and barely grunted at us let alone actually speak,he served us our drinks and when we asked if we could get some food he just shoved us a menu and... My wife and I visited the Craven Heifer in Stainforth on Saturday and was treated to evening of log fires, great beer, and superb food. The pub has a special village type appeal and is warm and inviting. Both our meals were to a high standard in both quality and amount, the new chef seems to have made a huge... More

My husband ate at this pub a few years ago when he was doing the Land`s End to John o`Groats cycle ride with his friend, his memories were of good hearty food, so as we were passing through the area again we returned a few couple of weeks ago and we were certainly not disappointed! The pub is a short... More

The Craven Heifer used to look uninviting, but after a recent walk, my wife and I decided a quick drink was required, so decided to take a chance. What a surprise to find the pub all painted up and renovated inside. As it was just coming up to 2.00pm I presumed they would be stopping serving any food that was... More

The newly renovated Craven Heifer was a little bit of a mixed experience. The rooms were clean, tidy, and comfortable. We ate both dinner and breakfast there and both were reasonable, not great, but decent pub fare. The slight downside was the service, neither the bar person nor the owners made much effort to make us feel welcome. This is... More

Been to this pub several times over the years but had not been back for some time and having decided I needed a quick break at short notice thought I would try it again Delighted that I did the new landlord and landlady refurbished all the rooms to an excellent standard, food was plentiful and excellent but the relaxed and... Excellent food. Absolutely, everything anybody could wish for in country pub. This little gem of a place can only be up there with the finest of typical country hospitality expected within the Yorkshire Sales. The rooms have just recently been refurbished to the highest standard. Considering Andrew an Maureen have been there 6months they have gutted the bear bones of... More

Stayed here with my boyfriend for two nights while attending a wedding at nearby Taitlands. Perfect location for this; only 5-10 minute walk from the venue so if you are a wedding guest, you can't get closer. Parking is provided which was great for our rental car. Lovely cosy rooms, comfy and clean. Beautiful stained glass windows are a definite... More

I stayed at the Craven Heifer for a weekend as I was climbing the three peaks (about a half an hour drive from the hotel). I was really happy with my room (14), although a single occupant I was given a family room so I had lots of space. The bathroom was a good size, clean and with a lovely... More

Our family enjoyed a tasty dinner here on Monday night; fish & chips, jacket potato and Chili con carne. The interior was ok but the atmosphere was sadly very lacking with the staff efficient but not overly welcoming when we initially entered the pub. We had hoped to eat here twice as it's so local to where we are staying... More
