what an impressive building, after motor biking with the girlfriend on the back back in June 2014 we had a stroll round the town , passing this hotel , thought that's a perfect location for an over night stay , so cycled with a mate in September , for £65 each including breakfast room was more than good enough for... Was staying in Hay for the weekend, so looking for reasonably priced food. Decided to try the Blue Boar as recommended by friends. Decided to go for the Thai fish cakes. They turned up very quickly. Presentation was very good but quantity of food was a bit disappointing. 2 large fries, 2 fairly small fish cakes and a bit of... More

The owner/ manager of this establishment is equal only to basil fawlty he is rude and arrogant but be aware not until you have paid the hotel is uncomfortable and obviously hasn't seen any kind of decoration or improvement since Oliver Cromwell days give it a wide berth far better place for food drink and accomodation locally would not entertain... My wife and I have just returned from spending a few days at the blue boar to celebrate our golden wedding having spent our honeymoon there 50 years ago. What a wonderful hotel full of charm and character. We had a lovely romm complete with four poster. The staff were all wonderful and made this a memorable occasion for us.... More

Stayed for one night in room 31 in the courtyard. This is a quirky hotel with some charm. However the hotel seems to be hiding behind the quirkiness. Our room was small. The bathroom was in need of updating with mouldy tiles and taps. The floor was flooded on our arrival and stayed wet throughout. The room smelled musty. The... More

The room facilities were basic and in dire need of upgrading: the cistern was not secured to the wall and also leaked; the handrail in the shower was rusted through at the top; the towel hooks on the door were falling off; the cord on one of the sash windows was broken, another would not open and the bathroom window... When myself and a friend arrived we were told that our pre-booked room had been given away as someone else had extended their stay, and would we be happy to share a double room as they had no twins left. As we knew that there were no other rooms available in other hotels locally we had to accept this. After... More

Probably they had to change chef because now food is delicious. Especially "polish omlet". Room's nice but if sb doesn't like IKEA from last two centuries won't be satisfied:) wooden stairs and floors, paintings on the walls - Harry Potter, nice

I stayed with my wife and 2 daughters on a Saturday night to attend a nearby wedding. We really liked it, quirky, aged and mysterious and would definitely stay again. We were in Room 2 if that helps, very funky old furniture and unusual layout, creaky floorboards etc but it's a 14th century so what do you expect? Yes you... More

We only went for a drink here but were very glad we hadn't booked for the night. One drink was enough. The barman appeared high on something and service was so bad it felt like something out of Faulty Towers. Perhaps that's how they are choosing to differentiate, by being chaotic, rude and eccentric. Didn't do it for us although... More
