The blue boar hotel was a good place to stay. It's got a lot of history and basically just an old place! The rooms were good, had all the furnishings you needed! Just took a bit again used to do with the floorboards and the rest of the room being a level due to the how old to build on... More

I was attending my brother's funeral in Maldon. My husband and I are both wheelchair users had telephoned the hotel three weeks prior to our visit to enquire if their rooms were wheelchair accessible. The charming gentleman I spoke to said yes indeed they had an accessible room however the room was booked out on the date we required. I... More

According to its website, this Inn is something like six hundred years old and some of the paintings hanging in the residents’ lounge look like they date back from the grand opening. In many ways, Olde Worlde charm can be quite attractive, if you can tolerate the downside of creaking floorboards, concave beds, peeling and faded wallpaper and an apparently... More

Nine members of my family were booked into th Blue Boar to attend a family funeral. When they arrived they were spoken to in a very rude manner by the staff telling them that one couple weren't booked ( which was untrue) and that there room wasn't available. Two members of the party had booked a room suitable for wheel chair users... This place exudes it's history, you can imagine the horses being changed, ready for the onwards journey, while you are refreshed with good food and drink (including their locally brewed beers). You can stay in one of a number of different styles of accommodation or just stay for an hour or two when you visit the area.

The hotel needs some serious investment before it goes into total ruin. Most of the rooms are of poor standard, but the annexe rooms are more up to date. The beer is good but the food is very hit and miss. This hotel used to be the pride of Maldon when it was owned by Trusthouse Forte.

Just Spent the Valentine weekend here. Looking at the website it is clear what the decor is like so I'm amazed that people are surprised that it resembles as some describe the 'Oliver Cromwell times!!! ' Was totally amazed from the minute we arrived until the time we left. If your into the Renaissance then you will love this with... More

We live in Maldon and every now and again take a walk to the 'top of the town' to The Blue Pig as it is known locally. We went to the tap bar down a wonderful historical lane. We had a bottle of Pinot at £14 and was great. We had scampi and home cooked fries. The wholetail scampi was... More

My wife, myself and our two sons visited this pub for a Saturday lunch time drink. We first went to the brewery in the pub yard to buy a selection of ales to take home, then we went into the bar for a snack and a pint. My wife had a Coke, as she was driving, and a ham sandwich.... More

We revisited for a bar lunch and we're looking forward to it. The chips were overcooked and some were even black on the very thin tips. When we told the Waitress she quickly and defensively said that they were "triple-cooked", that was their trademark way of doing them. These were not triple cooked, for a start they weren't homemade. They... More
