We were recommended by a friend really as worth a visit because of the building. We stayed 2 nights my husband, myself and my husbands guide dog. The actual building and decor is amazing! It's an old coaching inn and goes back to Tudor times. It is still very much a pub with hotel facilities seperate. The beer is excellent... More

We were recommended the Blue Boar Inn and sought it out for lunch. Approaching from the top of the High Street, my initial thoughts were 'what an old and interesting place'. My dismay at being required to pay £4 to park in the hotel's car park, however, was soon tempered by the realisation that it was entirely sensible given the... More

by some rather tired decor and a truly extraordinary juxtaposition of paintings in the bedrooms - from 18th Century oils to 1980s high Kitsch. The four poster bed was not as uncommfortable as other reviews had led me to expect - but the 'easy chairs' were hard on the spine and posture. The breakfast was predictably grim (a local who... I have never written a review before, but have felt compelled to do so. My son wanted somewhere to celebrate his 21st birthday. It had to be somewhere that would both be local for friends and offer accommodation as guests were potentially travelling a distance. The staff at the blue boar were so friendly and helpful from the outset. The... More

We'd eaten in the bar before, but we decided to stay there and eat in the restaurant this time. The bar was heaving and there was a party in the restaurant - and a wedding the next day. Our bedroom was great, with a four poster bed and antiques everywhere, just as you would expect. Very comfortable room. Wish I... More

Very late December was my birthday and one of the treats from my partner was to go away for the night to somewhere completely different. It’s not often that you can stay somewhere affordable that dates back to the fourteenth century but here we were. The post code of the hotel is CM9 4QE and to find the car park,... More

We booked three rooms and dinner on Saturday evening for my birthday. First the good:- after a good walk in the bitter cold the blazing fire, the home brewed beer and the choice of whisky in the bar were very welcoming. Then the not so good:- we'd been promised three rooms each with a 4 poster bed. When the time... More

Imagine an old coaching inn in the middle of a very old town with sloping, creaky floors, staircases all over the place, open fires and draughty public rooms. Now add an in-house brewery, an OK restaurant and an atmospheric Taproom bar with gravity served beer. That's The Old Boar. Oh, did I mention the enormous bedrooms with four poster beds?... More

After booking for dinner we arrived to find the hotel reception/lounge a mess of dirty tables stacked high with empty glasses, bottles and crisp packets and the floor and around the fire place was also littered with the same. The receptionist was noted by her abscence and (after 10 mins or so), we were finally graced with her presence and shown... More

I knew this visit would be a good one, but it exceeded all expectations! We started in the bar where there was a fine selection of ales from the barrel, the most popular, suited us just fine – it was Pucks … (I can’t remember the other half of the name), and brewed on the premises apparently. We chose our... More
