We regularly eat at the Blue Boar as the food is 10/10. Sue and John the owners are great hosts,The hotel and restaurant is set in the heart of Maldon, The Blue Boar is very olde Wolde and suits the area very well, The hotel and restaurant is worth a visit !!!!!

If you are fed up with the corporate blandness of modern hotel chains then The Blue Boar in the historic Essex town of Maldon could be just what you are looking for. I recently spent a weekend there and what a breath of fresh air. No identikit bedrooms with staff all reading from the same training manual, instead the 15th... More

I have stayed at the Blue Boar on several occasions, but my recent visit will have been my last. This was a disaster from start to finish. When I checked in on Friday I was checked in by the owner, who was clearly drunk. The rear gates were locked and after I told them they would need unlocking as I... More

on check in, receptionist couldn’t find key for room 14, so gave me key for room 12. showed me to the room, lent me a hairdryer. room small, and basically furnished. before going out to dinner, tried to turn radiator on, no controls so left it. room was cold, but hoped that heating would be on during the evening, so... Decided to have a pre- Christmas get away and had seen The Blue Boar Hotel Malden on the website, it looked a really lovely log hotel. Old is putting it mildly. On arrival rang the Broken bell on reception. Someone eventually came from their pub across the yard, handed us our key and promptly dissapeared again. We found our room,... More

This is an old building and I have to say, the pictures on the website are very misleading. The rooms are filthy, old and tired. The building has character however none of it rubbed off into the rooms. The hot water is clunky, if you get any! My room was covered in a layer of dust so I didn't even... More

I came to Maldon to attend a family 70th birthday party held in the town. When phoning around for hotels in the area The Blue Boar was the only one with rooms available. I booked the room at a price of £85.00 a night and I was totally shocked to see the state of the room on arrival. The bed... More

We were given our room, which smelt extermelt musty, and had no hot water. we were moved into an alternative room, which had a great shower, and that was the high point. the matress must have been the cheapest the owners could find, the door was very difficult to lock and the walls were watermarked, and had very loose fitting... We were obliged to move rooms twice, once due to a door that would not lock, the other due to the faulty bathroom light sensor system. The owner was very apologetic and offered free drinks in the bar, on her. However, although told that our friends were also experiencing the same lighting problem, no attempt was made to relocate them until... More

Should be best place in Maldon shame on the owners it's filthy food terrible and no hospitality. Customer service is not on the radar nor is providing clean environment and edible food. Son sad that one of the oldest buildings in town has been left to go into such rack and ruin. Some call it quirky but it's just very... More
