We were so lucky with the weather... After days of rain, the sun shone and all the diners decamped to the sun-filled terrace overlooking the mountains, to enjoy their marathon lunch! Seems that aside from Saturday the restaurant is only open for lunch, but after a delicious 14 course 4 hour tasting menu, it's probably best it was lunch and... More

Wood smoked cooking infuses every course with delicious flavour - even the icecream which was unforgettable. Beautiful place, lovely ladies looking after you, and really excellent food. Quite far, but worth the trip.

First be sure that the GPS in your car is working. The place is out of the way in the basque mountains. The scenery is beautiful, you feel you are in another world,in a small village This is a completely different dinning experience ,in their Internet site they state "Care and instinct under the discipline of fire and primitive cooking techniques,... Asador Extebarri is a fairly plain, country-style auberge or inn in a pretty village surrounded by mountains about an hour out of San Sebastian. The service, although not especially polished, is perfectly pleasant and helpful, although it helps to have a little Spanish. But the food, the food.... Truly wonderful, from the smoked goats butter, the home-cured anchovies and tomatoes... More

We had seen this place on No Reservations and really wanted to try it on our trip to San Sebastian. It was about an hour's drive away. The setting is really beautiful, tucked into the foothills and part of this tiny little village. The restaurant itself was cute but the interior is very low key and almost spartan in an... More

An excellent meal although unexpectedly large. Starts small with great quality seafood cooked/smoked to perfection and then ends huge with a large piece of fish and comically small serving of Vegetables and then a massive steak. We had 5 at our table and the bone would have satisfied a Mastif Service is very basic

A bit of a drive from San Sebastián to arrive at this quaint village, and enter a beautifully maintained farmhouse which is Asadoe Etxebarri. We had the degustation lunch menu, a veritable feast of hearty, earthy flavours. All set in a relaxed unpretentious environment. Well worth the trip, and highly recommended

We made reservations four weeks in advance and drove up from San Sebastian. If you have a map, or a smartphone or GPS, the restaurant is not difficult to find. Restaurant was filled with young American couples and a few locals. Heston Blumenthal from the Fat Duck was dining on the table next to us. The food was fantastic, we... More

Food reduced (or should I say elevated) to it's essence. Everything was so simple yet so delicious. Not the typical Michelin-star experience where every dish is tiny and takes 5 minutes to describe and contains 10 tweezered ingredients. With Asador Etxebarri, when a plate of prawns is set down in front of you, you will taste nothing but prawn but... More

I'm not sure why this is categorized as a hotel - its a restaurant...but here goes: We visited Asador Etxebarri for lunch in July 2013. Our experience was terrific - everything we expected. The setting is gorgeous, at the edge of the mountains in a small town in the Spanish countryside - an easy drive from our lodgings in San... More
