The hotel has a great location overlooking the Seine and a perfect location for visiting Monet's garden at Giverny. This is quite a difficult one to review due to the disparity between the accommodation side and the restaurant. We stayed here many years ago when under previous ownership and received a very warm welcome. The "welcome" on this occasion was... More

We have stayed at this delightfully located hotel and restaurant several times now, and have always had nothing less than an excellent stay - but this time was not up to their previous standards. Hopefully it was just a blip, as we would much like to return. They seemed to be very under-staffed, despite (or maybe in spite of) not... More

We spent two nights in the Chaine d'Or while touring in Normandy. We'd booked in advance, though it wan't necessary. Having chosen the lowest-priced rooms (standard room with church view) we were delighted to to be upgraded FOC to the junior Suite with a Seine view. The location is superb, right by the river with a picturesque village sqaure on... More

We stayed one night here in a large room overlooking the Seine River watching the river traffic, birds and fisherman. There is a very nice walking path along the river and you can see the white cliffs and the old castle above. Hotel is comfortable and very quiet and our room and bath were good size. Plenty of secure parking... More

Set beside the Seine, the view is gorgeous, and the price is right. Dinner was decent though not exceptional, but breakfast was excellent. The church in Le Grand Andely has marvelous stained glass windows (the town has been noted for glass manufacturing since the Middle Ages), and the Château Gaillard is a marvelous ruin that overlooks the town and offers... The smell of the room, the uncomfortable and extreme old age of the concave mattress long since due for replacement, and exorbitant (and unexpected) charge for a 2 year old with no provision of an extra bed or towels are the highlights (25 euro). The view is great; the room is awful. Just say NO. Somewhere else is better. Especially... More

We had an attractive, simply decorated, spacious room with a wonderful view over the Seine from both bedroom and bathroom. We could watch the fisherman, river cruise boats and working barges. The meal was good - sensible sized portions not marred by large amounts of inappropriate trimmings. My only disappointment was that the sesame dressing could apparently not be left... More

A wonderful view of the Seine and one charming waiter were small compensation for horrible food, an unpleasant man running the hotel (we were ordered to appear for breakfast at 9am, when we appeared at 9.30, the stated time for last orders on the back of the door we were subjected to a Basil Fawlty harangue) and 'quaint' decoration, that... We arrived on a Sunday night, requesting a room, and were immediately impressed by the owner/host's knowledge and enthusiasm for the historical importance of the building. Recognising that we were English, we were shown to a room, which was delightful, that had previously been used by Sir Arthur Conan-Doyle, and next door to another which had had Lawrence of Arabia as... On our way to Rouen then Monet's farmhouse we fortunately chose our stopping off place. Following our GPS we wended our way down this road up this street down another lane where the trees were carved in a cube. Strange, yet memorable. Into the gated parking area. At last the pilgrims could rest. On the Seine. The hotel's rooms were... More
