We spent 3 nights here and for basic accommodation it was very good. We stayed in the Orangutan Rooms (highly recommend and worth the extra few $) and the room was large and spacious, had a nice big bed, and had an outdoor bathroom with flushing toilet and shower (cold water). There was also a ceiling fan which was needed.... More

Stayed here with my family in two of the cheapest Butterfly rooms. Basic, not very attractive on the inside, but nice small terrace outside. Food was OK, grounds kept nicely. This is a big place meant for larger groups, but for smaller groups it's adequate too. There are more idyllic options along the river, but this was not bad.

Stayed here for 2 nights. For an eco lodge it is very luxurious and comfortable. The grounds are beautiful and full of jungle noises although they are only on the outskirts. The room we had in the Orang utan block was really comfortable with a mosquito net provided. The bathroom was outside with a little garden. We were told not to... More

The rooms here are basic but that's what we expected, beds come with mosquito nets which is very useful. We thought we heard thunder in the morning but ran outside to find lots of monkeys running across our roof and jumping into the trees. We were only staying two nights so we booked a 6 hour trek with a guy... More

We stayed in an Orang Utan room which was very comfortable and spacious. The separate bathroom was very large and contained an open-air garden. It concerned me that mosquitoes and monkeys could enter through the hole in the roof, but neither was of concern. In fact there was a severe lack of intruding creatures, just the geckos on the walls.... More

Firstly don't expect the Westernised Luxury and you wont be disappointed. Do expect an amazing stay in a place with monkeys at your front door and Orangutans in the forest behind you. Bukit Lawang is a wonderful quiet place outside of the weekend and we found nothing but friendly and helpful staff. Rooms are not refreshed everyday as guests in... More

We stayed at Eco Lodge with our two kids aged 3 and 6. Kids were amazed to see the monkeys just jumping from one branch to another right in front of our room. The place was great for kids. We woke up early to start our 3 hour trek and ended up seeing and feeding many orangutans. The important part... More

We stayed in the orangutan rooms which were booked through sunatra Eco travel who we booked our tour through. A lovely retreat whilst staying in the jungle. Beautiful rooms with fans and unique outside bathrooms. Very clean and good food. Lovely staff. No air con but I don't think there is anywhere in bukit lawang- it's the jungle after all.

This isn't the Ritz Carlton. There are no iPod docks, mood lighting or 1,000 thread count sheets. This is lodging on the edge of the Sumatran jungle. And reviews of this property should be based on that fact. There is no TV or Wifi, but the bed is comfortable. Our room was clean, although it got muddy after trekking. The... More

We stayed here for a few days, in the orangutan and butterfly cottages. First room had a tree in the bathroom! cold showers. We heard from another couple about a cockroachplague in their (butterfly)room but didn't see any ourselfves. Beautifull place with many (Thomas leaf?) monkeys. Just across one of the bridges. Special thanks to our guide in the jungle,... More
