The hotel is near the food street which provides delicious Sichuan foods with reasonable price. We dinned in Xian Shan Fan Dian twice and found the foods delicious with reasonable prices, simple dishes like dumpling, Jiao Zhi, fried eggs at RMB10 each, bean curd was at RMB6 per bowl.
The hotel room was small and the furniture were very old. The beds were reasonably good and soft. With the huge compound, customer service officers were there to help guests in addition to the room service staff These officers were helpful and efficient. The other plus point of the hotel is the many hot spring pools, which the local guests enjoyed very much. The hotel has transformed somewhat to a more organized and conducive one.
The front reception staff were not very friendly; they need more customer service training in order for them to provide better customer experience for their guests in the hotel.
Breakfast is good with variety of foods.
Room is ok but a bit old, but comfort.
I though the location and nearby "town" were quite nice and upcoming. Breakfast is a bit odd, in that it is mostly served in the open - under covers but not inside. There is a relatively small indoor section - what happens when the weather is bad and theres are lots of people I can't imagine.
Our rooms were comfortable, but not of the standard we'd had in Chengdu - but not "bad" either. All in all the hotel served its purpose as an overnight location.
Rooms are large, but deteriorated because od too much hunidity. Someone before wrote that windows had to be opened constantly in order to keep the mold smell out/not to smell so much. That's true. Heavy mold smell is what characterizes the room at once.
I must say that bed in my room was so hard, that it was one of the worst beds i've slept in. Like i was sleeping outside in a sleeping bag on the grounds...
Bathroom has shower that you can't pull out, it is fixed like in many hotels around China. But water pressure is low, so one need's acrobatic skills to take shower. Bathroom is equiped well, like many 4* or 5* hotels in China are.
Food in hotel was, in my oppinion, not up to the standard. Restaurant is one building on 2 floors, breakfast is served on first floor and lunch/dinner was served on both floors (although i wouldn't take this as fixed info). Food was in many occasions cold and not tasteful.
One thing i did like was spa, massage and hot spring. Try it while you're there.
All in all, i think thins hotel would be much better with a little more effort from managment's side, but for now, honestly, i wouldn't recommend it.
Apart from the predictable hard bed, the rooms were pretty dirty, breakfast was poor and we were charged an extra 350RMB to use the pool with our kids.
Not what you expect when you are staying in a hotel. I accept it is a spa, but even so, your customers expect more.
Stayed 1 night on 17May 2012 (booked hotel thru travel agency in Chengu) at Executive room (5th floor) after checking into a Business standard (2nd floor) room that was dirty, noisy airconditioning and filthy toilet. Upgraded to Executive room after complaining to travel agent but front desk didn't mention of upgrading charges until after agreeing to the upgrade. Worse still, the upgrade charge was calculated per pax (we booked 2rooms for 4pax) and came to RMB680 after discount. Travel agent said hotel insisted we took baths and used facilities during the less than 1hr transition at Business standard room when we waited for response from hotel & travel agent after communicating our displease. Later on in the day we discovered a local Emeishan sales agent (located within the hotel) could offer additional discount over the "Today's rate" shown on electronic display at the front desk. In short we were charged for the price of almost 2 rooms (ie. 1Standard+1Executive) for a 1night stay.
Learning point for those considering this hotel is:
1. Book directly from Internet or through Emeishan local agent
2. Book transport from Chengdu directly - do remember to factor in travel time from hotel/residence in Chengdu to XinNanMen bus station to EmeiShan bus station to EmeiShan Grand hotel (considerable waiting time). Alternatively, pay for private MPV van to take you from Chengdu directly to this hotel
3. Insist on 'Executive Standard' as the 'Business Standard' doesn't meet even a 3star hotel
4. Breakfast at this hotel starts from 7am but 'full day' itinerary to EmeiShan summit almost certainly requires departing from hotel by 6.30am or earlier. Hence, a 1-day stay at this hotel prior to EmeiShan is in practice a 1night (quality) sleep before the physically strenous hike up the mountain.
5. A word of caution for sedentary folks (and those traveling with seniors). As all tourists must depart EmeiShan by 6.30pm, a leisurely trek up (& down) the summit before closure time is probably wishful thinking. Do remember, a 1-day hike to EmeiShan is quite unlike a 1-day stay at a tropical resort like in Bali or otherwise – the climb up AND down the mountain will almost certainly drive you yearning for a leg massage.
In short, will not stay (ever) in this hotel again!
"Insist on an 'Executive Standard' room only. 'Type A' is queen size bed while 'Type B' is 2 single bed. Corridors for 'Executive' rooms are better carpeted, less noisy and free from stale odor."Read full review
