It was just the perfect holiday for me, my wife and the little baby inside!. We stayed in The Retreat for 3 nights in last week of December 2014. While Delhi was covered with a dense cloud of fog, Bhimataal to our surprise, was beaming with plenty of sunshine. If I were to guide anyone to this place, I would... More

If you expect western 5-star luxury standards of accommodation, the Retreat Bhimtal is not for you. Instead of an impersonal, sanitised international hotel room, here you will find something very, very wonderful - a real homestay, run by an educated and fascinating Indian family who will, if you so wish, discuss the merits of English writers or Indian culture until... We chanced upon this gem of a place run by Padmini and her family while looking to break journey while returning to Delhi from Binsar. Tucked away on a steep hill off from the bhimtal lake road, the approach road, the old colonial bungalow makes it hard to believe you are in bhimtal. While our stay was very brief (literally... We visited the Retreat with our two children, 10 and 3. We had been to Bhimtal during our previous visits to the Nainital hills and hadn't seen any place worth staying there. We drove down from Delhi in the evening and stayed overnight at Pantnagar. Next day morning we drove up to Bhimtal. Finding the place took a bit of... More

We are an older British couple who absolutely loved the echoes of the Raj, in this colonial bungalow. Paddy corresponded with us by email at length, to help us plan our holiday. She ws most helpful in advising and booking train tickets for us, from Anand Vihar, instead of the more daunting prospect of Old Delhi railway station. We need... More

Thank you so much for your warm and wonderful review! It was truly a pleasure having both of you here as our guests, and I enjoyed our conversations, and learnt much from you, including about both India and where you come from! I hope that, some day, we will meet again! Our warmest good wishes for your Indian journeys. More

I visited The Retreat (Bhimtal), Jones Estate with my friends without the slightest of clue on where we were going to land up. To our surprise stood before us the Heritage cottage completely cut off from the maddening rush and noisy city life and right in the midst of nature. Wonderful feeling staying at a heritage cottage located out of... More

I had a lovely stay at this beautiful place. It gave me a complete break from the rush and madness of city life and I would love to go back again. Everything about The Retreat is brilliant, from the food to the rooms to the garden and especially Paddy and her lovely family who did so much to make our... More

I visited Bhimtal in monsoon, with my wife, kid and mother-in-law. It was a weekend trip, and we were looking for a slightly different, offbeat experience. I got to know about this place on the internet and immediately fell for it. Pictures showing a cozy colonial bungalow, lush greenery all around and the praise from fellow tripadvisor members--all promised a... More

I had been to The Retreat nine years ago with a friend who lives in Bhimtal and decided then that I will be back. This time we were in Pangot and got tired of the place, so decided to go to The Retreat. I called Paddy and she confirmed that we could have the suite for ourselves for one night,... More

Thank you! Your visit was all too short, and because of lack of space, you were all squashed into one suite. (You were all great sports about it, and very accommodating - thanks). Hopefully, you will return, with longer notice next time, and have an even better time! More
