The Califa, owned and managed by James Stuart and his business partner Regle, must rank as one of the most unusual, charming and wonderful hotels in Spain. Fabulous, friendly staff. A wonderful atmosphere and imaginative use of an old Moorish building and fantastic value for money. If you want trouser presses and mini bars then go somewhere else. If you... More

We showed up without a reservation as we were doing a road trip along the Spanish coast so they gave us the only room they had available. It was down a few flights of stairs so carrying our bags was a struggle, and the room had a damp smell with no light coming in. I'm sure they have nicer rooms... More

My husband and I stayed here last August with some friends while in the area for a wedding. The hotel is situated in the middle of the town's main square, overlooking a pretty fountain. It is a collection of corridors, courtyards and rooms on various levels which all lend to the quirky nature of the place. The town is medieval... More

So yes, there are quirks to this hotel, but it's in the middle of a very old city...so it's sort of to be expected. The hotel and all it's many rooms are beautiful and not like any place we've ever stayed. The views are magnificent; there is a game room for the kids to hang out in; a room top... More

The hotel is of Morroccan character...really nicely done. Our room was beautiful with a great ensuite bathroom. It was clean and comfortable. Our room looked out over the patio with the restaurant and that was just horrible. The smoke of the grill and the noise from the guests just came right into our window and it went on till about... On first discovering this treasure in 2002, the we had only ever eaten in the restaurant until 2009 when we managed a 4 day stay, once of our favorite haunts we returned year after year after year, although some original traditional dishes remain, there is a lot more choice now, too much to take in by the time the busy... I hesitated to book this hotel as it had a two star rating but reviews on Tripadvisor were so positive I thought we would go with the flow, and am really thankful we did. As other reviewers mention the hotel is built into a hillside with rooms cascading downwards, so there are lots of curving staircases and nooks and crannies... More

Totally beautiful hotel with lots of interesting nooks and crannies, very kind and helpful staff. The room was spotless and had a really great, big bathroom. Because we were "inside" the main building and had windows facing the courtyard, there was absolutely no problem with noise. There is a super patio up on the roof for lounging when it is... More

This hotel is very unique, and has modernized old world charm and comfort. If you have trouble with stairs, you will not like this hotel as there are many levels, which is part of the secluded feel of the rooms. Considering the ambience, I would recommend staying her for a romantic occasion. You can enjoy a drink on one of... More
