The location was nice with great views and a beach area. The boys loved staying in a freestanding cabin. We checked out a game from the lobby and enjoyed that after dark. The dining room had upscale and delicious choices. Their continental breakfast was much nicer than just a bagel with lots of delicious choices.

From the moment we arrived at The Markland the experience unfolded. The cabin was so nicely appointed including top of the line linens to make the visit even better. The friendly staff were always helpful, if needed, as everything was thought out ahead of your visit. The food- locally provided and prepared by an outstanding chef is outstanding. The views,... Absolutely lovely, quaint, and quiet resort in Cape Breton Island. Location is gorgeous and serene. Cottages are cute and cozy. We used the resort as a base to explore the surrounding areas -- White Point, Meat Cove, Bay St. Lawrence and of course the Highlands Nat'l Park. All are well worth the trip. As an added bonus, our dinner at... More

What a charming setting--on a high promontory overlooking the ocean at the tip of Cape Breton Island, you will find the Markland Coastal Resort. It's a collection of modern, clean, spacious, log style cabins. A short walk takes you to a beach and an inlet cove. Wake up in the morning to a brilliant sunrise and the sound of an... More

The Markland is a wonderful destination - at the top of The Cabot Trail and overlooking some of Cape Breton's most beautiful scenery. We stayed in one of the "Private Two Bedroom" suites and it was fabulous - the "common area" had all the comforts of a living room and a kitchen/dining area and the two huge bedrooms (each with... We stayed in one of the log cabin rooms and we are glad that we did! Beautiful spot. We wandered the beach after and only had to share it with a handful of other guests. The rooms themselves had everything we needed for the night, and had character as well. The only big downside was that our doors to the... More

We didn't stay here, but were given a recommendation to eat at Markland, and we're very glad we did. We stopped by in the afternoon and talked to the chef, who said he could make a vegetarian set supper meal for us if we made a reservation. We did, and had a wonderful 3-course vegetarian with dairy meal - soup/salad,... More

We had the pleasure of dining in the restaurant at The Markland for the past three nights. We sampled halibut, lobster, trout, and strip steak. Lovely fresh vegetables - asparagus, fiddleheads and new potatoes -accompanied the entrees. Everything was delicious and beautifully presented. Even if you aren't staying overnight at The Markland, it is well worth the drive out to... More

We stayed at the Markland for 3 nights of 5 while visiting Cape Breton. Not far to Ingonish or Cheticamp - we travelled easily to both to golf and hike. It was early June so we got the low season rate which made it very affordable. The continental breakfast was fruits, breads, cereals, hard boiled eggs, yogurt, coffee/tea/juice. The owner... More
