This place is worth it for the location and the food. I stayed one night in a log room. Guests in adjoining rooms were audible and heavy footsteps shook my bed. The screen door jamb was freshly broken and the glass carafe in the coffeemaker had a big chip out of the spout, things that housekeeping should not have missed.... More

Stopped for one night. Great spot. Water warm for swimming in pool and beach. Quiet location. Dinner was OK but not great value, they could do better here. Free breakfast was great! Fresh bread etc... Major fault is there no water when everyone has their taps on! Staff very nice and helpful. I would consider spending more time here as... More

End of the road place on Cape Breton. Staff are friendly and responsive. Cottages are a bit small but generally ok. Clear efforts to maintain them, but falling behind. The worst part are the beds. Tried them in two separate cabins. Both were soft and small (doubles). Continental breakfasts were adequate, nothing special. Restaurant food was very good but expensive.... More

We stayed in room 16, it had a view to the beach and a huge yard. The room was well made up, no tv but lots of games and puzzles to keep you occupied. The spring on our bed was really noisy, they need to work on that. Dinner was delicious, and so was breakfast. The staff are good humour... More

We stayed only one night and I wish it has been a week or more! Very nice cabins, easy access to the beach, fabulous views, and such a peaceful location! The restaurant serves excellent meals and the staff was wonderul.

Exquisite food, serves the best chowder in Nova Scotia. Spacious clean cottages with good views of bay, comfy beds. Beautiful, sandy deserted beach. Didn't try pool but it looked inviting. Helpful staff. Ideal location to discover Cabot Trail.

We stayed in a log room with a stunning view of the water for 3 nights and wish it had been longer. Setting is remote, but just off the Cabot Trail and perfect for exploring the northern reaches of Cape Breton--we spent a great day heading up to Meat Cove and exploring White Point and Neils Harbor which would not... New management making great strides. LOVED our stay here and would definitely do it again. Oceanside cottages with and without kitchens. Fantastic remote and bucolic setting. Staff friendly and helpful. Delightful breakfast included. Dinners scrumptious - local seafood specialty. Great access to all of Cape Breton Park. If you want to experience the far end and most beautiful part of... More

I went to visit my two sons and had a wonderful time. The cabins are all fresh varnished pine with a stove as well as a microwave. Even the curtains are fresh and 'nautical'. The hotel is run as a family operation and it shows in every facet of The Markland. In addition to the cabins, the main house is... More

My son and I stayed at the Markland for a week and had a wonderful time. The family style cottages were very comfortable and had all we needed so that we could be self-sufficient. A few times we ate at the restaurant on site and were never disappointed - order the halibut! The views were fantastic from the hotel and... More
