It's one of the places I'll never forget in my life! We stayed here just one afternoon and one night while travelling from Cotopaxi to Cuenca. It's not easy to get used to this altitude but the atmosphere, the wonderful view, the nice rooms, the perfect dinner help a lot in feeling "at home". We enjoyed walking with lama and... More

There is one big plus: the rooms and common areas are as comfortable and stylish as it can get, and considering the altitude, it's by no means too expensive. And there is one big minus: the management and the staff are truly aweful. To pick one example: My girlfriemd had severe altitude sickness and needed transport to Riobamba immediately. The... More

We went there during our drive from Quito to Cuenca. The place is exactly what we expected. A well hidden jewel at the foot of the volcano. The rooms are so comfortable ( big comforters and alpaca blankets in a Wooden comfortable bed) the little wooden chalets so nice. You feel really well when you arrive here. By the way,... More

The lodge is high up at about 13,000 feet on the Chimborazo volcano. There is very little else around you, so you feel completely surrounded by nature. The view of the volcano and the wild grasses changes constantly with shifting clouds. Hummingbirds land on your window sill, alpacas shift around the landscape much like the mist, and small rabbits and... More

I stayed this lodge on the way to Volcano Chimborazo. Very quiet and nice place with amazing views, full of wildlife (lamas, birds, small animals like rabbits). Attention: the name sign of the road has the other name - "Lodge Chimborazo by Mark'', not Lodge Estrella del Chimborazo as you book it. No wifi access, no mobile network.. Absolute silent..

This is normally used as the focal point for the Chimborazo base camp. The moment we entered, we thought we were somewhere special. Before entering the main room of the building, We removed our shoes and donned the slippers provided. As we arrived, lunch was being prepared - there is no choice! No matter, it was delicious. There is a... More

I really do not want to write this review. I want this place to be selfishly mine, and mine only. Unfortunately, the mind-bending beauty of Estrella del Chimborazo must be shared. I traveled here alone and stayed for two days and one night to acclimatize for my climb up Chimborozo. The meals were superb and the scenery is unbeatable and... More

Stayed here for a weekend during a business trip to nearby Riobamba. What a delightful surprise. As someone else wrote, it's nestled into a beautiful valley below Chimborazo. Two small buildings hold a number of very comfortable rooms, and modern shared bathrooms (oh that shower felt so good after our hikes). The lodge is picturesque with a mountain climbing motif;... I stayed here acclimatizing 3 nights on my way to Chimborazo. This place completely floored me: I can't believe it's not better know... PROS: - LOCATION: This little hotel is nestled in the most beautiful valley, with llamas lazily grazing about, hummingbirds brushing your shoulder, the wind combing through blond heads of wild grass... It's heaven! And I am not... More

Estrella del Chimabarazo is high in elevation in the Totarillas Valley, on the west side of Chimbarazo. We were lucky to read about the Estrella in Rough Guide, and even luckier that they eventually opened the place up when we showed up one afternoon in the off-season this past September. They typically operate on reservations. The views up the slope... More
