Called in for coffee on a bleak and blustery day and was made to feel so welcome. By the time we left the lovely young lady had sold the area and staying at the hotel to us, so we may well return. On a holiday when we received indifferent service in most places it was rather refreshing to meet someone... More

There's a lot to like about Hamersay House: - very friendly staff - mostly in good condition and felt new, with one important exception (see below) - absolutely superb food, including well done vegetarian options and good cooked breakfasts The one thing that let the hotel down was in our room (room 6). We woke up on the first morning... More

Just home after an 'enforced' stay here after my ferry was cancelled due to bad weather. Came upon Hamersay House by chance and what a find. The staff were lovely and so helpful, the rooms well equipped, even an iron and ironing board discreetly tucked away in a cupboard. Lovely toiletries were supplied with fluffy thick towels and even a... More

This is the old Taigh Dearg hotel and this is the first time I stayed there since it changed hands. The hotel is close to the ferry terminal at Lochmaddy and is modern, and is beautifully decorated. Check in was quick from a reception that is just inside the main door. I had a main course and dessert in the... More

We couldn't miss this hotel in Lochmaddy – it's the only big bright blue building. Under new management for about a year, it is a very good spot to stay. We enjoyed our visit. We had a large, well appointed room and ensuite on the first floor that could not be faulted. Very comfortable. Breakfast was in the main dining... More

Stayed here in mid September 2014, room was comfortable, the food was good and the staff couldn't have been nicer. The steam room and sauna were a very unexpected bonus. Another guest told us it had been taken over recently and improved a lot. Don't know when that was - but we really enjoyed our night here

Having read other reviews of Hamersay House, we went for supper after a trip around North Uist and a good walk. We ate in the bar as it was not very busy being towards the end of the season but the atmosphere was pleasant and the service very friendly. The menu was limited but the quality of food very good,... Stayed here recently on business. Clean, tidy, Nordic influences, this hotel was comfortable, food was good and the rooms well appointed. If you ever have to choose between the Dark Island hotel and this one - this is the winner by a country mile. My only concern was the attitude of the staff member at breakfast which could have been... More

A two night stay organised by McKinlay Kidd, and up to the high standard we expect from them. Staff were well trained, efficient, and friendly and also had time to talk about their lives on the island, and places which we should visit. Spotless, great menus and food to match - breakfast porridge was served with blackberries, raspberries and blue... More

Went for a birthday celebration meal with friends. The food was excellent, We all enjoyed the different meals we were served. Best steak I have eaten in a very long time. The food was served hot and service was excellent. Will definitely return.
