Wonderful location for stop over before returning to GB via Calais. All the grandure of a stately house with beautiful grounds to match. Huge bedrooms with large comfortable beds. Great food available from a choice of restaurants and all at very reasonable prices. Staff very friendly and helpful. We will be back and use this historic hotel as a base... More

We've just revisited La Chartreuse for the first time, having discovered in at the start of our honeymoon 15 years ago. It stands just 5 minutes from the A26 motorway 45 minutes south of Calais and makes an excellent stop-off at the beginning or end of a French driving holiday; or, for that matter, a wonderful place to escape to... A short drive from Calais but with a remote feeling. Le Chartreuse is gorgeous with a comfortable country house feel. My French is rusty but I had a lovely chat with one of the Spanish speaking staff. Service is discrete and attentive. Everything is "correct" as my afresh friend would say. Nice glass wear, lovely nibbles in the lounge/bar. We... More

Convenient location, delightful setting, excellent gardens, magnificent vegetable garden that would put a lot of stately homes to shame friendly staff who speak excellent English. Hotel is also advertised as a wedding venue which would be fantastic but very expensive. As soon as you enter then there is an atmosphere of timeless opulence as it is like a minor stately... More

The hotel is very close to the motorway, but very quiet and certainly not a 'motorway hotel'. Service was excellent, we stayed in their cheapest room - it was massive with a very good en suite. Overall quality of the hotel was very good. Service was excellent and staff speak good English. I have to say that the restaurant was... More

The guy on reception made us welcome. The girls were snooty, almost snobbish. The room - De Lux - as not. Tired, and shabby. Shower in Bathroom would have befitted from WD40 - the noise opening the doors would have woken the dead. Le Vasco restaurant - brilliant; cooking outstanding. Service - iffy! The grounds are lovely; the herb and... More

This was our final stopover on a trip through France, and we had high expectations, which were partly fulfilled. The house is very grand, but some of it does seems a bit tired and old, particularly the bathrooms and the interesting musty smell in the corridors and rooms. This didn't stop us enjoying it. The fruit and vegetable garden is... More

Class hotel but at a reasonable price. Standard room but spacious and comfortable. Excellent restaurant. Will try Brasserie next time. Would have liked a shower as well as or over the bath. Extensive grounds and gardens and accept dogs. About an hour away from the ferry if you are on a stopover.

Just stopped over one night for the fun of it and for the proximity to Calais. We stayed in a wonderful room with just great atmosphere! High ceilings, floral wallpaper, huge windows and a lovely bathroom. Very old fashioned decor but classy! The grounds were lovely and we even found a few Tour de France competitors unwinding! We dined in... More

My husband, myself & our dog have just spent three nights in this hotel. We chose it as we wanted a little luxury, given that we had a very busy agenda for those few days, visiting WW1 memorials & cemeteries. Our initial experience was very similar to another recent review on here. On checking in, we were shown to our... More
