It started off with surly, almost aggressive service, the wine list was deplorable. Not a single Douro red was on offer. The food, my food, was not worthy of any restaurant anywhere. I chose a chicken breast stuffed with prawns. It arrived in about ten minutes, the flesh was flaccid, no substance to it. The level of salt led me... More

Comfortable and relaxing place to stay and just right for a walking holiday, you can access some of the more local trails quite nearby. The scenery and outlook from the Pousada are beautiful, mountains and countryside and below the local village of Serra Agua which is lit up at night. The room was comfy, warm and spacious although there were... More

We have enjoyed the Spanish paradors and this was our first meal at a pousada. We were not disappointed. Excellent choice of Madeiran dishes and they catered exceptionally well for our two kids of 10 and 7. Very friendly and amenable staff.

Situated up in the mountains, midway between Ribeira Brava and Sao Vincene this hotel offers a fantasic outlook over the mountains and countryside. The comfortable, simply furnished bedrooms are either in the main building or in a wooden chalet style annexe. Food and service excellent. We had the half board option, so menu choice was limited but great food and... More

If you love mountains this is for you. Our room in the big log cabin was fine. On the first night I complained there was no hot water in the bath/shower, only to find that turning the tap to 'cold' solved that problem! The price of the room with half board was a bargain especially when, on finding no vegetarian... More

Before you book here you need to understand what you are getting. Most of the rooms are in a large building made from logs, so, once inside, it is if you are in a log cabin. The house itself has a few rooms, but I cannot comment on them. The rooms are quite large and furnished to blend in with... More

Although only 20 mins or so by car from central Funchal, up a winding road above the tunnel to Sao Vicente, this feels like a truely remote and rural spot- lovely! The large log-cabin accomodation area is set further back from the road- from the first floor rooms you look straight across to a steeply terraced mountain side over the... More

If your looking for quiet, village-like atmosphere in rural Madeira perfect for exploring the wild nature, this is a great spot to start. Stunning views, cozy and delicious food, and absolute quiet await. The room we had in the mail lodge, though nice, could benefit from an update in terms of mattresses and appliances. A fan would have been helpful... More

This hotel is set in the most amazing place: craggy mountains above, and deep, narrow valleys below, where villages sit, and from where you can hear roosters crowing, goats bleating, and election promises (while I was there) being blared from car loudspeakers. Mostly it is very quiet, with just the wind, the birds, and the sigh of the leaves in... More

This Hotel is full of surprises, friendly efficient staff, many linen changes in my lovely Log Cabin room with stupendous views of the local mountains and down the steep escarpment to the village in the valley below. The short walk to the Log Cabin Block had Agapanthus growing wild. My cabin room had two easy chairs a good glass-topped table... More
