This hotel is in the heart of Santo Domingo de la Calzada, opposite the Cathedral. It is a highlight on the walk to Santiago and a lovely place to look round. Unfortunately, as a hotel it leaves much to be desired. Reception is manned (literally) by a job-for-life civil servant. When asked (in Spanish) whether the hotel sells the tickets... More

Right in the town centre by the cathedral is -good peaceful spot with a pretty outlook from our own balcony onto the square. V quite town with not a huge amount to do. A few little bars and a couple of smart restaurants. We just had tapas then watched football. The only tourists about were walkers doing the pilgrim trail.... More

from El Ciego, we continued through the vineyards, visit of Bodegas Eguren Ugarte (unique, impressive!), passed by lovely Laguardia (a must see town), and pittoresque villages San Vincente de la Sonsierra, Haro, Briones, where we visited also the Bodegas Dinastia Vivanco (special !), and then towards Santo Domingo. the Parador is ideally located in centre of town, next to "The" cathedral... This was the 4th Parador on our latest trip to Spain. We have stayed here before and enjoyed it each time and weren't disappointed this time, the staff are all very friendly and helpful. We were allocated a lovely room overlooking the square and cathedral which ask had a small veranda. For British travellers you can get BBC World here.... More

We stayed here a year ago (I'm a bit delayed in writing my trip advisor reviews!). We only stayed one night here, which in retrospect was a bit of a mistake. Since this is in the middle of the La Rioja region, there would have been plenty of great wine tasting to do with this parador as a good base.... More

The parador is an amazingly historic building with parts dating from the time it was a 12th century hospital catering for pilgrims on the Camino de Santiago, which incidentally runs right through De la Calzada. The public rooms bear witness to this astonishing history - less so the guest rooms. We'd opted for a 'superior' which meant that it came... More

Beautiful building, main rooms are stunning. We had a golden oldies half board package which was amazing value for the quality of the hotel and restaurant food. Buffet breakfast also v.good.Downside was the cathedral bells all night and lack of air con in our room because v.hot for time of year. Possible that more bells than normal because there in... More

First time at this Parador, located in the city centre of Santo Domingo de la Calzada. Staff was friendly and helped during the whole stay. The room was big enough for a coulple and it was clean and quiet. Breakfast could be larger, but quality was ok. A suggested visit is the city of Ezcaray, just 15 minutes away by... More

Upon arrival, no one there to help with the bags or to park the car. After checking in, still no one to help so we brought the bags to the room ourselves. Later that evening, noticed someone was there to help but it was after most guests had already arrived and checked in. We decided to use the "welcome/free glass... More

We were walking the camino. It was good to have a hotel after the albergue last night. the hotel room was good, the central hall wonderful (the old pilgrim hostel). However the seating outside reeked of tobacco smell. Interestingly, hotels.com did not do a good job, the reservation we made took 12 hours to show up at the hotel. I... More
