This parador is housed in what was the hospital built by Saint Domingo for whom the town is named for the express purpose of helping pilgrims on the Camino. It is a beautiful building and structure. The rooms are nice enough, but nothing outstanding. For the price, I expected more - we stayed in Casa Rurals on the Camino that... More

The hotel is located right next to the Camino de Santiago. The parador makes for a delightful stay in a quintessential Spanish medieval town: the bells from the church across the street may keep you awake at night, but they add to the inspiring atmosphere. Bedding was simply adequate and wifi only worked in the hotel's reception area. The hotel... More

This is one of TWO paradores in Santo Domingo de la Calzada. The other parador operates Spring through Fall. This hotel is called Parador Santo Domingo de la Calzada. When entering the town by car head for this hotel, which is in the old quarter, via Calle Mayor. There is a bollard which marks the entrance to the old quarter.... More

Fabled town along the Camino de Santiago, the old section is notable for its golden, limestone houses. The interior of the parador preserves this look. Our room was actually a suite, with a charming sitting room, good bathroom and very comfortable bedroom. We could hear the soft chiming of the church clock (soft! don't worry!) during the night. We had... More

It is not widely known that Paradors offer special terms to pilgrims on the Way of St James. They provide a welcome break from dormitories of bunk beds costing €5 a night. The Pilgrim lunch is worth getting there in time for (available till 16.00, I think). As ever, Parador breakfasts are among the best on the Continent.

We stayed while hiking on the Jacobs trail in the Parador. The welcome and check in was ok. We came in wet and surely a bit dirty, but where welcomed as any other. The hotel is really nice interior, very romantic and relaxing. The room was ok, but for this kind of level not more. We had also dinner in... More

Spain has come a long way and this parador just doesn't cut it. I paid in excess of €100 for the night here.... If it was priced according to its standard, fine, but it isn't. I had a horrible room, the breakfast was as grim as the room and besides a stunning location and historical elements this hotel has nothing... More

Have travelled miles on foot and stayed in perfectly good refuges and hostels we decided to treat ourselves to a parador and it really was beautiful, the bathroom was large and sparkling clean. The TV had the world cup ! The lobby is stunning- it's marvelous that these beautiful buildings have been spared for antiquity. We had a room on... More

This was our first experience with staying in a parador and we really were hopeful that we would be impressed - and we definitely were! The location was excellent for that area and town; the staff were welcoming, friendly, helpful and efficient and spoke excellent English; the common rooms were beautiful in classy Spanish decor; our room was quietly elegant,...
