the place really needs a revamp, i complained to management re a pothole on the road in the camping site as I twisted my ankle falling into it, was told some excuse why it was there. Also complained re the door handle on the ladies showers, as the nob had come of and was sharp, staff informed me that they... More

Hi Juliekarsten69, We are so sorry that your stay here was less than satisfactory. We are just writing to let you know that as of the 1st of July, Opal Hot Springs is under new management. We are addressing several issues, including the potholes that we have already filled. The ladies shower mixer has been fixed. The pools will be... More

We stayed in a 'motel' room and were impressed by the size of the facilities for the price. The kitchen was well equipped and the heaters warmed the place up surprisingly well. The beds are comfy, and entry to the hot springs was a good bonus, the kids loved the slide and the parents loved wallowing in the hot water.... More

We pulled into this holiday park and thought we could potentially be murdered here! It's quite a scarey holiday park, alot of people live here permanently and they are very 'rough'. One had a pet goat tied up outside his van, while others would just drive by and look intensely at us! I went to the ladies showers late and... More

First of all, the showers and bathrooms are old. The showers barely put out any water and the whole place is a bit shabby and rundown. This place needs a major renovation! The one positive thing is that it is centrally located to most anything you would like to do in Matamata.

This is a basic place to stay, we had a powered site so can't comment about the on site accommodation. The park itself is rather old and could do with some upgrading. The showers, toilets, kitchen are all rather old and need some upgrading, especially for use in winter as they are all cold and not very inviting. The hot... More

Worst park we stayed in in NZ during a 4 week camper van trip. Showers and toilets not well cleaned; kitchen had food spilled on floor attracting flies when we first arrived early afternoon, advised office who were going to tell 'someone', went to cook dinner in evening, food still on floor and more flies had joined the party. 2... This was a fine place to stay, reasonable value for money. It had all the facilities we wanted, but could do with a lick of paint. Pleasant grassy areas with trees, and a lovely view across the lake of the mountains in the morning. Leave yourself time to enjoy the hot mineral pools which were a highlight (but have cold... More

We stayed here for 4weeks in our caravan, 2 adults 2 children and a cat. The facilities were cleaned daily by friendly local ladies. The price was good and we had full use of the heated pools. The owner George had a tok tok for getting around the grounds and the kids got to have a ride which they loved.... More

This is a very, tired and shabby resort. It was ill equipped, in great need of paint and upkeep and the facilities were dirty and unhygienic. It was expensive because of its location and a disappointing resort for even a short stay.

This is a very old, tired holiday park. The amenities are just not up to scratch. I stayed in a full hotel room which was well equipped, but old furniture with missing knobs, flies everywhere, and worse of all...the hot water is full of rust so I couldnt even shower. The staff is friendly and helpful and access is given... More
