Clean and tidy enough 'motel' unit; no view, no access outside to sit in the sun other than via the back door and into the carport. Shower dribbly, had to do repairs on toilet cistern to stop it running all night, neither spa was operational, only one private pool operating, shower at main pool had no head, pools and surrounds... My son and I stayed here for one night prior to visiting the Hobbiton Movie Set Tour. The hosts were very accommodating and friendly. The park was clean and quiet with varying levels of accommodation. We stayed in a powered camper van site and the tariff was reasonable. We were only a 15 minute drive from the Hobbiton Movie Set... I stayed here with several family members for a weekend stay. We booked one of the family motel rooms and two of the park motel units. There are two family units and two motel units in the one block together and separate from the rest of the park accommodation. This was great as we were all situated together and were... More

We stayed in one of the cabins which luckily had a heater and thick blankets because it gets cold at night at the end of June! The kitchen is very clean. It's very nice to go in the pools in the evening just before they close as you can watch the stars and then go to bed feeling really warm.... More

The Opal Hot Springs is basic good old fashioned accommodation. I have now stayed her twice and you always receive a warm smile. I have stayed in the comfortable family rooms. Our group of 6 all had plenty of room. Good cooking facilities for self catering. The only small problem is the hot water in the shower. The hot natural... More

We live in Auckland and love escaping to this olde world charming place. We have been coming to stay here every year over the past 6 years and have always found our motel unit to be clean and well stocked with towels etc and the bed comfortable. Being so close to the Kaimai Ranges its a great weekend to go... More

The caravan park is a fairway out of Matamata so transport is requirded to get meals. When arriving to book in we were wondering if we had the right place. Our cabin looked as though it was still in the 1940s. The bed was very uncomfortable and finished up sleeping on the couch. It looked as though the facilities had... More

The was our first campervan campsite during our recent trip. We thought this was a typical NZ campsite and what NZ has to offer. We were so wrong! This campsite was the worst of them all. It look like a set from a bad ghost movie. We parked near to the toilet and I accidentally stepped on a mouldy bread... More

This place is an embarrassment for the New Zealand tourism industry. Just generally grotty and run-down. .. clearly little in the way of cleaning and maintenance takes place - and it shows. The pool complex was an absolute health hazard; there must be minimum standards that places like this must adher to, if only for the safety of public health.... More
