This is a very difficult place to rate because it's so unusual. The host, Dominique is a semi-retired doctor who has been restoring the property since he bought it 20 years ago. Most of the major work has been competed but the interior is a work in progress. First the positives; Dominique is a great guy and a good cook... More

When we first arrived, we were greeted by two enormous parrots in the window of the castle. We stayed in one of the stand-alone, self-containted cottages which was perfect as we have a 1.5 year old. If you go to France to visit les Chateaux de la Loire (i.e., Chambord), or to go hunting or horseback riding in the Sologne Region of France, you need to find a place to stay. This chateau is now functioning as a "chambre d'hote" as the French call it. B&B doesn't seem quite adequate to describe it. The chateau is a delightful building, a fairtytale for Americans who aren't used to architecture such as this. Each large bedroom is decorated differently with very tasteful art and an updated bathroom. The grounds are large and beautiful.... More
