Booking and Room experience After checking out Tripadvisor reviews and being unable to to find an access statement for this hotel, which is built on a hillside, I had at least a couple of detailed telephone conversations last September with the Manager, John, with regards to suitable access for anyone with a mobility problem, availability of a sea view room... We stayed for two nights at the Castlebay in Room 7 - a fantastic view of the bay and a good sized room. We ate at the hotel on our first night having booked in advance and arriving from the ferry at 8.30pm. Food was good, as was the service. We found our stay at the Castlebay to be very... More

Room 6 seems to pop up quite a bit, I was in there for two nights in lieu of a twin room, it is a small double room but as I was on my own it was fine for my needs I was quite happy with a double bed, I found it clean and well presented, as for the views... More

If you are reading through some recent Trip Advisor reviews you may have spotted the discussions about Room 6 or similar "hillside" rooms. I will try to add a little further illumination. But before that I had a very good stay all round. Staff welcoming and excellent, food good to very good, location cannot be be beaten, wifi works but... More

Refused toi provide us with any breakfast when we had to leave early to catch the ferry back to Oban. This despie adverting they did a continental tray in these cicumstances. Cooked breakfasty on the first morning was dissappointing. Great room, though - marvelous view accross the bay.

The outstanding view and the cheerful staff are the main positives. The negatives include the need for some serious tlc, parking arrangements, access for people with mobility problems, noisy adjacent bar( into the wee small hours), overpriced for what is on offer, lack of finishing touches/ finesse, adequately cooked but unimaginative food, dated decor, to name but a few. Some might consider the general... More

Thank you for your feedback I will pass on your compliments to the staff. As for the parking there is not very much we can do short of cutting into the beautiful scenic country side. The parking at the front is at the bottom of a short staircase which for most people is completely fine. but for people who do... More

I stayed at the Castlebay Hotel for one night- but I have stayed before. I had booked a twin ensuite room with a view- I was travelling with my father. I got the view- it's stunning. I got a double bed- given it was early evening and we couldn't be bothered going downstairs and well, he is my Dad and... More

We only stayed one night but hope to be back. The room was good but the bathroom floor was slippy when wet. This was a disabled persons room and as two able bodied pensioners the floor was a risk. Everything else was superb. The room was nicely decorated and clean and the young waitresses were so friendly and helpful the... More

Stayed just the one night at the end of our two weeks on the Islands. Room was very acceptable with view across the bay. Dinner was good but the evening was made by our young server Rose. She was great company! She even stayed to chat to us old folk at the end of the evening!

We have just visited Castlebay hotel - excellent stay with very comfortable well appointed rooms( the MacNeil suite and adjacent room). Food was excellent and view from both dining room and bedrooms was stunning. Staff very pleasant and attentive. Adjacent bar excellent place to relax after day exploring the island .
