There is not a lot of choice in hotels in Castlebay, but we are glad that we chose this one. The situation is splendid, but if you are going by car (off the ferry) don't park on the road below, but drive up to the bar beside the hotel proper, (also run by the hotel), and move your cases from... A few days spent on this island was perfectly suited to this hotel. Friendly and helpful staff, especially when dealing with taxis to the airport. The rooms were clean and comfortable and I even managed to get the wi-fi connection in there. The food was very acceptable and tasty, and very generous portions, especially breakfast. A good base to be... More

Our experience at Castlebay Hotel went beyond our expectations. The staff were extremely friendly and accommodating. We did not bring a car to the island so either had to hoof it or get a cab or bus, so when we wanted to visit the local cemetery 4 miles away...one of the staff actually offered to drive us there. The food... More

Stayed here on tuesday night after all ferries were cancelled. We were very glad to find they had room and even better they allowed us to check in as soon as we booked at noon. Had lunch in the restaurant- we both had fish and chips which was very good and all freshly cooked. Only let down there was the... More

Had a room overlooking the bay which was nice but paid for it! Great location - in the heart of Castlebay. Ate in the restaurant and was intrigued by the menu. Very little local produce (living in a fishing/crofting island!!). Most bought in packets. That is unacceptable and disappointing for the price you are expected to pay. Local feedback is... More

This is a decent hotel - expensive though for what it is but it is a sellers market on the islands so the prices are high. Comfy beed and a great view but the smallest bath I have ever seen. Nice breakfast and people, as most are on the islands, were extremely helpful.

Flew into Barra from Glasgow and landed in brilliant sunshine. The airport here is on the beach. Castlebay Hotel is high above the bay (south end of Barra) with a magnificent view of the island castle in the centre. The hotel was built in 1880 and has been upgraded several times, I'm sure. There is a sun room, a bar... More

I stayed at the CastleBay Hotel for 3 days as part of a two week island hopping trip through the Outer Hebrides. It was one of only two places where I stayed more than 1 night. The location of the hotel is brilliant - really handy for the ferry (you could't get any closer) and excellent for the Isle of... More

Very well situated for the ferry and for views over the harbour to Kisimul Castle. The sea-facing room was clean and tidy, with a double-sink ensuite. Breakfast and evening meals were ample, and well-presented. The staff we met were friendly and helpful. On the morning of the last day they seemed short-staffed due, we were told, to a rota mix-up,... More

Hotel is situated above the harbour. Fantastic views over the bay especially from the restaurant and sun lounge. Rooms are clean, comfortable and functional with en-suite and tea/coffee making. Makes a nice change to have a shower with lots of water pressure!

Hi Tony Glad you enjoyed your stay with us here at the Castlebay Hotel. A lot of people think the water pressure will be very poor over here on the Island but we have worked hard with local Trademen to ensure we get the best out of our systems - as we know how frustrating it can be. We hope... More
