I fulfilled a lifelong ambition arriving in Barra landing on the beach then spending a night in the Castlebay hotel. It was at the very end of April, for the good reason that the hotel's "summer season" starts on 1st May, when their room rates increase VERY considerably. Everything on Barra is expensive but I didn't find the hotel to... More

Booked in for one night on business. The young members of staff were to say the least attentive, interesting and wishing to make sure you enjoyed your stay. During both dinner and breakfast, their cheery faces ensured your decision to stay here was the correct one. Well done the Castlebay!

A very busy hotel - we could not get a room, so would advise booking well in advance, however, we were lucky enough to eat in the restaurant (again busy, so best to book). The food was great - a good selection of local sea food - but what made this evening so memorable, was the customer service, all the... More

Very nice hotel. Friendly staff made us feel very welcome. Excellent location after a long ferry crossing, two minute walk up the hill. Room was spotless. Fluffy towels. We had our evening meal here which was delicious as was the breakfast. Good value for money

I booked this hotel as a surprise for my husbands birthday. We had a lovely room with views across CastleBay. The room was clean, comfy bed, well stocked with tea, coffee and biscuits etc. Sadly my husband was ill during our stay, but the staff did everything possible to look after us both. They were all lovely. I can't comment... More

It's not hard to imagine the hotel in its former Victorian glory but sadly those days are long gone. The location is excellent overlooking the harbour, Kisimul Castle and ferry terminal but the rooms are tired, bordering on shabby. On arrival we were told that our Twin Room booking had been confused somehow, despite them knowing it was wrong. We... More

My title says it all really. Warm and dry, enthusiastic staff in the restaurant, some wifi, home-cooked style food in (over) plentiful supply, somewhat lacklustre reception and staff, decor needs an update and the bathroom needed serious attention and modernisation. Rather poor value for money compared to the other Hebrides hotels in which we stayed on the same trip, but... More

Hello Micemurders, We thank you for your recent review. We are disappointed to read about your experience at the Castlebay Hotel. We are in the process of updating the bathrooms in the hotel but as you can appreciate living on an Island makes things a little more difficult. We are surprised to read about the comment about our staff. This... More

Stayed 2 nights at this hotel, unfortunetly quite dissapointed with the hotel in general. Food very average, housekeeping very poor. I would certainly recommend that the owner of this hotel who lives in London (according to the mangeress) would get straight back to Barra as soon as possible and make immediate changes to the running of this potenially very accecptable... We started our Outer Hebridies cycle trip from here. We arrived off the ferry around 20:30 and were away early the next morning. Very close to where the ferry comes in so nice and handy. Not entirely sure it was worth the £155 b&b for a double room though. Staff were very nice and breakfast was excellent, cooked fresh. Bit... More

We were a group of 9 aged 5-73 staying for 4 days. We had three double rooms and each had enough space to add an extra cot for a child without making it too cramped. There was still space to walk around and place luggage on the floor. There is a nice sunroom where we could sit and enjoy the... More
