This hostel not only offers the most wonderful views and fabulously convenient location, it also provides hospitality above and beyond what might be expected from the budget prices. Katy and the crew go out of their way to help and make their guests feel welcome (thanks Rashelle and Sarah). A wonderful place to stay in Barra.

Located really close to the ferry and the supermarket, but also close to great white beaches, this hostel is the place to stay in Castle Bay! They have quiet little dorm rooms, twin rooms, good showers with hot water, a great common area with a big fire place where you can relax in the evening, a big well-appointed kitchen with... More

My brother and I arrived on Barra to find a super rainy Castlebay. It was pretty late and we weren't psyched to start our 5 days of cycling and wild camping with a soggy tent so decided to to find accommodation. The hostel was fully booked but they offered us floor space to roll out our mats and sleeping bags.... More

This place is what hosteling is all about - open and friendly, functional with well equipped kitchen. A great lounge with wood burner with cozy chill out area. Fantastic views out over the bay, less than 5 mins walk from ferry. Always hot water available for showers. Free WiFi. Great accommodation. Owners try to meet and book you in at... More

Stayed in this lovely wee hostel and had a thoroughly good time! Was clean, comfortable, pleasant, friendly, and fantastic view of the bay. Also handy for shops and ferry. Particularly enjoyed the relaxed welcoming atmosphere, a truly good place to unwind in. Will be back some day!

We arrived at the hostel from the evening ferry and were told where our room was. Room was fine, although beds were squeaky with every move (otherwise 5 stars!). Great Value for the price paid and thoroughly enjoyed exploring Barra! Beautiful place and breathtaking beaches everywhere! A trip to Vatersay is definitely worth it and only a short causeway to... I stayed whilst on Barra for a few days of work. In contrast to the usual faceless B&Bs that get booked by employers it was lovely to stay somewhere where I felt really welcome. Facilities were more than adequate and well looked after, and convenient location. Castlebay is a small community where everyone seems to look after each other, and... More

Where do I start? With the disorganization, the disrespect, the filth or the unsafe conditions? I booked my stay in August 2013 for June 2014 and prepaid a deposit. I had asked for a female only room and that request was confirmed. However, when I arrived last week, there was no reception, only a board with people's names and rooms... More

We are small family run hostel and we do our best to make the wee hostel as welcoming and friendly as possible. We are 3* Visit Scotland classified. Of the hundreds of visitors we get each year almost all leave happily and many fill our visitor book with positive feedback. We have numerous comments saying this is one of the... More

I called to book a stay for 1 night, was offered the "cabin" as the Hostel was full, really the cabin is a Hen -House,or a Chicken Coop, the Hostel is none to clean, the showers are filthy, and cost £2.50 a pop,all in all a poor show,I would not reccomend it for a nights stay, but there was nothing else,so there you have it,its really... 1 night on Barra, so booked this to be close to the ferry for the 0850 to Oban the next day. Granted, everything in Barra is close to the ferry......great we place, ticked all the boxes. very close to the 2 local hotel/bars, and great view out across the bay. Would have spent more time motorbiking around the islands, but... More
