Kalu's Hideaway is a lovely peaceful, green retreat . It has excellant food and staff who are so freindly and helpful. The sounds of the jungle are in your own garden and I could have listened to them all day. Pool and surrounding gardens naturally beatiful. A good place to do Safari's and seeing the elephant rescue centre.

I had read about this hotel and got our tour operator to include it in our itinerary. We were not disappointed. All the staff were extremely pleasant and attentive and the food was excellent. It is a nice quiet small hotel so the large tour operators do not use it. It is a convenient location to visit Uda Walawe National... More

Where do I start? Firstly, this was a late replacement for our original hotel due to Yala National Park being closed for September. However I’m sure Virgin Holidays could have found something of a higher standard than here considering our original hotel was the 4* Cinnamon Wild. Personally I would describe this as a rustic guest house rather than a... More

My friend and I had such an amazing time. The safari at the national park was such an amazing experience and our time at Kalu's made it even more enjoyable. The buffet food is yummy and a true taste of Sri Lankan cuisine. The staff are wonderful. They are so smiley, attentive and conscientious. We had a foot massage which... More

Based on the pictures on the internet, I had been a bit doubtful about Kalu's Hideaway. This was completely unnecessary, the hotel is a gem very close to Udawalawe National Park. We stayed at the suite on the top floor, which proved a good choice in terms of space and view but a bad one in terms of accessability, as... More

Just back from Sri Lanka stayed in 5 hotels, my stay at Kalu's Hideaway was just perfect, happy friendly staff, beautiful restful grounds, excellent food, my only complaint was I wasn't there long enough! An ideal place for a few days retreat.

We visited in Sept/Oct 2014 and this place was one of the highlights of my trip to Sri Lanka. The pictures on this website do not do the place justice. It's situated in the middle of nowhere and really allows you to unwind. (we had stayed two previous nights in very budget/average accommodation and to be greeted by ice cold towels... More

When you walk in, first impressions are very good of the lounge/dining area overlooking the pool.. But on closer inspection, the whole place needs upgrading. The room block is like a concrete bunker and the rooms basic - ie no reading light or mosquito nets. The area round the pool could also do with some plants to hide yet more... More

Stayed here for a night in late September- great hotel and would recommend as a place to stay if visiting Uda walawe. The rooms were lovely as was the food and dining area- we particularly liked the pool which was beautiful and looked nicer than on the website! It was also the perfect temperature for a swim! Only issue is... More

We had a lovely stay here ! They accommodated our family of 5, and we enjoyed the lovely rooms, the pool, overlooking the gorgeous vegetable garden and river. We enjoyed playing table tennis, pool, and darts , and the food and service was great! Also we did safaris in morning and evening- evening great for elephants and morning great for... More
