This was my favourite hotel of the whole trip. It was completely different from the big chain elegant ones. It has a perfect setting with lovely gardens and views. It is close to the National Park and elephant transit home. The jeep safari through the national park was one of the highlights of the trip. The evening Buffet was excellent... More

Ok there are a few flaws here and there but really critics need to get a life. Kalu's is in a unique location amid real rural Sri Lankan villages and river life and a very easy short drive on your jeep or land rover to the national park - which is superb. The pool area and grounds are sublime. A... More

Stayed for 2 nights 27th/28th July, mainly to visit elephant transit home and national parks. Had read mixed reviews about Kalus, but we found it to be excellent. Very friendly and helpful staff who instantly upgraded us when our tour company had made a mistake with room booking. Lovely setting and grounds even when we had a short shower of... More

Stayed two nights. Mainly to visit the amazing Udawalewe National Park. It is not luxurious and it has some odd touches - wardrobe two narrow for hangers and not deep enough for anything longer than a shirt, an in-room safe two big to fit in the cupboard allocated and not attached to anything! But we really liked it. It was... More

Stayed 1 night to visit Uda Walawe National Park. Good sized room on ground floor. Shared patio with adjacent room. Substantial buffet served in the evening. Smallish pool, it is a small hotel, but it is in a lovely garden.

We loved Kalu's Hideway! From the warm welcome to the charming rooms, the friendly staff and the delicious food - this was our favorite hotel in our whole tour! It's in a perfect location, convenient to Udewalewe Park and the Elephant Transit Home. The breakfast and dinner buffets offered a wide variety of very fresh, excellently prepared foods, and the... What lovely and friendly staff at Kalu's Hideaway. Nothing was too much trouble - they even gave me a birthday cake for my birthday! All the staff are recruited from the local village and they are great! The hotel room we stayed in was large and stylish - but 4 flights of stairs up so no good if stairs are... More

Kalu's Hideaway is the place to be at Udawalawe. It has approx 15 rooms & that makes it cozy & not overcrowded. It had the right ambiance & the correct approach to pamper one who has had a long day at a safari. We were treated like royalty & the staff went more than the extra mile to make our... More
