The food is good with huge portions! Really good facilities too; parking at the rear; outdoor seating; pool table; TV. Good atmosphere. There was a live band playing when we visiting; there are two sections to the pub; the pool table/band were in one and the dining tables etc in the other part... so if you didn't fancy the music... We have just enjoyed an excellent Mother's Day lunch at The Chequers. Food was nicely presented and delicious, staff were very helpful and did not rush us. We will definitely return here 😃. We were a mixed age group ranging from 17 - 81!!

Excellent value at lunchtime as they have a 2-course lunch for seniors for £7.95. We both had an ample portion of whitebait served on a board with a salad garnish and a warm baguette. I had the liver and bacon and my wife had the homemade chicken & leek pie. Again ample portions freshly cooked. Shepherd Neame ales are well... More

Have just had a very tasty lunch at this lovely old pub in our local village.... I knew it was next to the River Teise and their gardens with tables and decking are just delightful, I believe a lot of hard work has gone into creating this peaceful setting and my congratulations go to all concerned!!! The food was great,... More

My family stayed at Chequers in 2012 after owner Nigel Hilton was welcoming and helpful to my mother during her previous trip to England. What a little gem to find this place in the gorgeous English countryside, run by a man with formal top-level chef training. He went from being the private chef for yachting billionaires to settling down to... More

We were one of the other couples who were told that one room was flooded and we were the only guests to be bounced.....we managed to find a hotel in maidstone but only after making 15 calls. one couple ended up driving from Londona and back. The new owners should be ashamed of themselves as this type of behaviour is... More

We booked a room here months in advance to attend a nearby function & re-confirmed the week before. However, less than 24 hours before our stay we were told they could no longer provide our room as there had been a leak, apparently in the particular room allocated to us. Annoyed as we're (& unable to get anything else acceptable... More

Pretty village pub with rooms. Small restaurant but excellent food of a quality expected from more up market restaurants but at a reasonable price. We booked bed and breakfast for 2 nights. On first impressions a lovely old pub with low beams and wonky floors and ill fitting doors. Breakfast was good but there was a supplement for the full... More

Daughter and I shared a twin room on a Saturday night here. Very picturesque, right on what used to be the roaring-busy A21 through Lamberhurst, but now the bypass has taken all that away. Very nice room, secure, comfortable, nicely decorated with eclectic but good vintage items. Lovely fluffy white towels and well-dressed beds. Cute little ensuite, everything worked, and... More
