Definitely one of the better managed and more eco-friendly of the islands on Lake Bunyonyi. Booking was easy; transport to the island was efficient and not too expensive; car parking on the mainland was free. The accommodation on the island itself was excellent. We stayed in the geo-domes with a superb view over the lake from your bed. Toilets and... More

I arrived at kabale early in the morning, it was freezing and all I wanted to do was get to Byoona Amagara where we were booked into. The drive to the lake was beautiful and once we arrived at the dock we had an option of either getting a motorboat ride to the island at a small fee or rowing... More

Incredibly beautiful surroundings, the island itself is much bigger and more interesting than you first realise, great for an explore. Go for a swim, hire a canoe and drift lazily around the lake with a beer and a book, or enjoy the great views from the restaurant. It's basic in the sense of electricity and hot water, which are available... More

The hotel is on an island on Lake Bunyonyi and the surroundings are beautiful. I stayed in the dorms and it was fine, The showers are cold but you can order hot water for a fee. It seems like that is a fee for everything. Actually a list is tapped next to the reception area. You have to eat there... More

Let's say you're in this really nice, extremely quiet island. You camp anywhere in Uganda for about 6000UGX pp. but here it's 12,000UGX pp. you understand, because it is an island, and the place is pretty nice. The boat in would still cost you money. a hot shower will too. let's say you're sitting in the lounge, which is an... More

Stayed one night in a geodome and one in the dorm. Although expensive for one person the geodome was nice with a private deck. The dorm was full when iwad there but was ok. Food was tasty but took a long time to arrive. I recommend taking a canoe to arrive so that you can see the lake but be... More

We stayed 4 nights at the Island, sleeping in Geodomes. You have to try it!!! This is the ideal stay for relaxing and discovering the magical lake Bunyonyi. There are a lot of excursions, activities possible! We did the top of the mountain walk at a nearby Island to have an overview of the islands of the lake. We visited... More

I was only to spend one night here as I passing through town...stumbled upon it after talking with some peace corp volunteers in Kabale. It's worth the slow canoe ride...very peaceful. Food is better than average. The dorm rooms are clean and simple. Very safe. Great gathering spot for young independent travellers. Would love to come back for a longer... More

We paddled for 50 minutes in a dug out canoe to get to the resort, which in itself shows you just how quiet and peaceful this place is. It's in the perfect spot, so idyllic and amazing views of lake bunyoni and the sunset from the restaurant. There is a swimming platform that's really private and a great place to... More

Lake bunyoni is one special place, the setting was amazing and Byoona Amagara was the perfect place to stay. Me and my two friends stayed in the dorm which was great value for money. We especially liked the eco emphasis, ensuring that the tourism had less impact on the environment. The meals, despite the long wait were very tasty and... More
