Built almost entirely from local natural materials, Byoona Amagara quite exceeded my expectations! We had one of the Geodomes, and apart from being beautiful, it had a great view of the lake, and having no door meant waking up up to this view! The twin Geodome had an extensive private garden with some picnic seating, although the double Geodome had... More

This is one of the most beautiful, friendly and budget-friendly locations we have visited in a very long time. We stayed with our family (2 adults and 2 children 7,9), for 3 days and nights, in a deluxe geodome. We loved everything about it, the views from the accommodation, the food from the menu, the very friendly and helpful staff... More

I stayed here two nights in February and I can really recommend it. You have to take a canoe or motorboat from the mainland to the island. The staff was friendly and the food was good. There was not much to on the island but anyway it was a really relaxing weekend.

I'm an expat for a year and a half now in Kabale, Uganda and time I review all the places I've been... starting with my absolute favorite... this place - Byoona Amagara. I've taken many weekends at Lake Bunyonyi, and at least three at this place - solo, with friends and with girlfriend (we also took a tour with 'Amagara... More

Byoona Amagara far exceeded my expectations for a relaxing, affordable getaway in East Africa. The geo-domes are clean and comfortable. The view of the lake from bed in the morning is incomparable. The free and inexpensive activities like hikes, swimming, canoeing, etc are plentiful and the staff is very friendly and helpful. The food was excellent (except for the stir-fry,... More

This "hotel" is on an island in the middle of Lake Bunyoni. The setting doesn't get much more relaxing and beautiful. There is a nice gated parking lot (though the guards didn't see fit to keep someone from blocking us in which was a bit of a problem when we tried to leave) and they pick you up in a... More

Staying in a geodome at Byoona Amagara is a memorable experience! Not only do you have such an unusual accommodation, practically under the stars, but you have a huge private porch with a view of the lake and a private composting toilet and shower. We loved it! The restaurant serves reasonably yummy food (it is of course a little over-priced... More

We decided to go to lake Bunyonyi and stay at Byoona Amagara after it was recommended to us by a friend. We booked to deluxe geodomes and they were stunning. Built on raised platforms overlooking the lake, my wife did wonder where the door was though! Privacy however is guaranteed and the views stunning. On arriving at the lake side... More

Backpackers Heaven! Still (very) cold showers, if you decided for the budget-version but what a Surrounding, what a view from the Restaurant, what peace! And for anyone who took the halfopen huts: enjoy that you took the very right decision!

We had a great time relaxing on this island for a couple days. The basic geodome was more than sufficient for us, beautifully secluded. Enjoyed the outdoor showers. The food in the restaurant was very good and there was a bigger variety than I was expecting. Had fun swimming in the lake, water was warmer than expected. Highly recommend if... More
