Our family including 2 school-aged children spent a wonderful week there enjoying this beautiful old French mansion located in the charmingly quiet village of Sauveterre with views across the Rhone valley toward Chateauneuf-du-Pape and Mont Ventoux. Each morning, we would wake up to sparkling sunshine and enjoy a delicious breakfast on the outdoor terrace of coffee, tea, or hot cocoa... More

Owners husband and wife very friendly and helpful. Service was excellent. Breakfast was great and we could eat outside when it was not very windy. The room was spacious, clean and comfortable with large king-size bed. The property is large and peaceful - there are plenty of places to sit and have a glass of wine with a cigar.

Travelling to Avignon for the theatre festival can be a harrowing experience due to the heat and crowds in the city proper; when combined with a stay at Chateau de Varenne, 10 km away in distance but a million miles away in atmosphere, it is a great pleasure and privilege. The hosts Didier and Sylvie made us feel unbelievable welcome,... More

While travelling in Provence, we decided to have one night at one of the old and authentic châteaus in the region. This old ramshackle mansion did fits the bill perfectly. In the whole establishment it is only a few rooms, but the are grand as you just can imagine. I it's own ground the mansion feels secluded and private, and... More

Our second visit to this wonderful hotel but with a 20 year gap in between. The current owners are warm and welcoming - nothing was too much trouble. All bedrooms are different. The two we saw were large and beautifully decorated in a very lavish style. The hotel is located in a peaceful location with nice gardens and attractive swimming... More

This building is beautiful, but shouldn't be run as a hotel. On arrival, there were bags of rubbish on the steps leading up to the hotel which were still there on our 3rd day! There was a mess of children's toys at the top of the steps/drive, and we had to wait for what seemed like an age for anyone... More

I'm really surprised by a lot of the reviews here. Although this chateau is in a beautiful location and is itself a marvelous historic location, it is in a state of disrepair and the quality of service and amenities here is quite poor. This might be a deal for half the price, but is robbery at the current rate. Here... More

We had a fantastic three night stay here in early September. The chateau is amazingly beautiful it almost takes your breath away. We booked a double room but we were luckily put in a family suite so had a wonderfully large bedroom with two beds and a chaise longe overlooking the garden! Didier and Sylvie we're incredibly accommodating, even letting... More

This place is to die for. Never have I stayed in such a beautiful placed. The pictures on the website really don't do it justice. I almost didn't book this hotel, as I read through the reviews on Trip Advisor and saw that some were a little negative about the service and the hotel itself. I'm so glad I decided... More

Entering through high electric gates, discarding the car in a discrete car park below the garden, we walked in silent wonder through a subtly-tended formal garden up to the impressive chateaux entrance with its welcoming ever-open front door. Our room was lovely with a beautiful view across the garden and over towards the distant mountains. Our hosts were very welcoming,... More
