The Parador de Oropesa has to be one of the finest.. Reading that this was the first of the chain to be opened in 1928 I can understand how the idea of turning historical buildings into fine hotel's proved so appealing. The public areas have high ceilings set in beautiful rooms with comfortable sofas and chairs. The breakfast room /... More

Of the paradors we visited (Alarcon, Almagro, Trujillo, Ciudad Rodrigo), we found this room to the be least appealing -- down a rather dark corridor with worn carpets and a smallish room with not a lot of character. OK bathroom, single sink. This was room 103. However, the parador has a truly spectacular dining room with a to-die for view... More

This is a perfect example of why the Paradors are so excellent, and confound the otherwise generally true principle that governments are no good at running businesses. The castle/palace is full of history and well-converted into a modern hotel and decorated very tastefully. The staff are very efficient and friendly, and the food in the restaurant excellent. And all this... More

Oropesa is a small town and probably the only reason most people come to it is to stay the the Parador. It is a wonderful place for an overnight stay. The Parador is built i within the walls of the castle Which was built in 1400s. The castle is open to visitors. We arrived at the Parodor earlier than we... More

This was a fun place to stay for one night (no more). The rooms were well sized and temperature/light controlled given the nature of the building. We were plenty comfortable. There were a few more stairs / transfers from one elevator to another than we would have liked. The food and service at the in-house restaurant was a bit weak... More

Another stunning Parador building, at the top of a hill in a historic Spanish town. Free parking in inner court yard. The most helpful receptionist yet, providing information on the facilities. First of four Paradores I have stayed in which has english language versions of historical notes regarding the building and its former occupants. Stayed for one night in room... More

This was the first Parador that we have ever stayed in and is undoubtedly the best. It is an old palace from the 14C, a lot of which still exists, and the interior is elegantly decorated and furnished. I asked for a canopied bed and we were given a suite which was gorgeous. The bedroom was a six sided corner... More

This is a very different place to stay - a genuine medieval Castle upon a hill with a small town at its feet. A great place to stay on any journey exploring Spain. I stayed here some years ago and I am delighted to say it has not changed or bowed to commercial change. Its restaurant is of good quality... More

Reception was efficient. Spoke English. Room was a good size. We had a westerly facing room, so good long distance views. Bathroom was fine, good over bath shower. Shutters on windows, makes the room nice and dark, and easy to sleep in late if you want to. Excellent buffet breakfast. Ate in the town both evenings, so cannot comment on... More

We have been staying in paradors for only about 10 years and have visited about 20 of them. We have passed this one by on the motorway to Extremadura many times, so this year decided to try it out for two nights before going to one of our favourites, Trujillo. Our experience was a bit hit and miss. The misses... More
