We ate at the Toruno restaurant for 3 evenings (stayed at La Malvasia a short walk away). When given the a la carte menu, we asked if there was a menu del dia, which we were then given verbally. We were there for Donana and the Birds which was just great! The Hotel is perfectly adequate as is the Restaurant but probably all is overpriced for the level of service and ammenities. The dirt roads are there because it is a heritage sight and will never change. The Rocio Pilgramage is a huge event at Pentecost attracting 500,000 people... More

We arrived at El Rocio at night...after our bus and we were searched by police with drug sniffing dogs, we were off to a dark walk down a dirt 'street'....the only thing we could see were hoofprints....we did find the hotel rather easily with directions from the bus driver, but we looked a bit haggard and weary once we checked... Nothing wrong with the place really, just a bit uninspired as a hotel. Fantastic location for birdwatchers. Rooms quite small. Staff friendly. Was undergoing renovations while we were there which did not help. Food at adjacent restaurant average by Spanish standards

We spent two nights in El Rocio during a tour of Andalucia. Hotel Toruno is located right at the edge of the marches with all rooms having small balconies and a view of them - bird lovers can start watching the Donana wildlife (best equipped with binoculars) directly from the hotel. Staff was OK. We had a room next to a back street and walkway which got very loud that night for some reason. It was a little difficult to find and the lack of street signs and only sand (I got hung up) did not help. The breakfast was OK, but heavy on the sweets.
