This hotel has a superb position, overlooking the lake in this unique little town. The rooms were comfortable and the price very reasonable for such a well-located property. The restaurant, however, was rather disappointing - some of the dishes were fine but others (mainly seafood related) were overpriced and did not meet expectations. The last two nights of our stay... El Rocio is on the edge of a lake in one of the areas nature reserves -very popular with bird watchers, pink flamingos in September. The village/town has no tarmac only compacted sand/earth for streets. Reminds one of a spaghetti western. Particularly as riders tie up horses on rail at restaurant/bar opposite hotel. Hotel is very comfortable and the room... More

We stayed in room 107 which is on the ground floor but overlooking the lake. It was clean and simple, very well located. It was not really sound proof so choose a room at the end of the hall as there is less traffic. If the reception is empty, check at the restaurant across the street. Service and breakfast were... El Rocio is a wonderful town and takes you back to a bygone era, complete with sand roads and hitching rails for the horses, and high quality housing. It is also full of interesting natural habitats. As a bird watcher it was easy to see 40 or more species just outside the hotel. Fabulous sunrises and sunsets over the lake.... More

El Rocio is unlike some American Western-Film Towns, a town serving the special purpose for a pilgrimage of thousands of people once a year. But for the rest of the year it is still a functioning little (ghost)-town with several bars, a pharmacie, a supermarket ... The whole town has sand- streets, perfect for horses. When we arrived at the... More

I've ben to this place several times for bird watching in the Doñana. The hotel is nice; all rooms dedicated to local species and some of them with great views. Rooms are not exactly sound proof and the beds could have been a bit softer (like generally in southern Spain). If the reception is empty you should require at the... More

This small town hosts a pilgrimage each spring that overwhelms the region so be sure to avoid it during that time. At all other times you may enjoy a town without paved streets, sand instead, and with horse hitching posts lining the streets, a birding paradise with views of a marsh and other nearby attractions. Dining at the hotel is... More

I've stayed before. The hotel backs onto the El Rocio marshes - although they were dry during my visit. Room was pleasant and functional - and opened out onto the marshes. A cold breakfast awaits in the building across the road, and that is a popular dinner location with everyone.

We visited Hotel Toruno with a big group of my colleagues (25 pax) on our study trip to Andalucia, and chose Hotel Toruno due to its great location, just on the border between the town of El Rocio and the wetlands of Donana. It is perfect for birdwatchers. The restaurant has the most magnificent view overlooking the lake, and you... More

We had a fantastic 3 nights here - real Spanish hospitality. Fantastic views of the lagoon from our room- you could see flamingos, spoonbills, glossy ibis etc without even using binoculars! The staff spoke sufficient Spanish and were very generous. We booked half-board and all our drinks were 'gratis' free, as was the local port from cask in the lounge... More
