Belligerent and disinterested describes the staff when we visited the restaurant at the Pierhouse Hotel. We waited 3/4 hour for a fairly uncomplicated meal (fish & chips, lentil burger). At one point we inquired about the delay and a very defensive waitress said that we had to wait as our food was being cooked entirely from scratch. We were sitting... More

As a hotel / restaurant owner my major gripe about this forum for customer reviews is that customers can hide their identify behind an alias and can avoid giving any form of detail about their visit in terms of date or time of day for instance. The fact that in this case the visit was in September and the review... More

We were very glad to have some delightful seafood at The Pierhouse. The langoustines were second to none and were thoroughly enjoyed as was the mixed seafood platter. Our children enjoyed the scampi and the steak and ale pie. Service was friendly and good. If it wasn't so far from us we would definitely return again. I think it was... More

We are delighted you enjoyed your dinner with us and found us good value for money. In view of the distance from Edinburgh to us of about 3 hours and to encourage you to come and visit us again, why not come and spend the night with us next time or spend the weekend here perhaps? Food for thought and... More

Second visit to this excellent eatery. Keen competition for seats in the bar so you need to be early but it's worth the effort. More space for casual callers would be a real bonus. Fish and chips here are hard to beat. We haven't stayed here as the rooms are pricey.

Many thanks for your review and I am very pleased you enjoyed your fish & chips. Finding more space for tables in the bar is sadly is not an option, however the room next to it, the Lismore Room can and is used for bar meals at lunchtime and then for A la Carte dining in the evening. If we... More

Visited here just for a meal two years ago, food was good and we ate in the round part of the hotel, which was for general public use, it seems this is no longer the case, you are now all squeezed into the front entrance and bar area, the tables are far too close together which makes it very uncomfortable... We are delighted you enjoyed your meal here and that you have returned to us again this year. Bar meals are served in both the bar and the Lismore Room at lunch time (round part of the hotel as you walk in on the right), but in the evening this reverts to La Carte dining as there is a greater... Sadly, despite technically allowing dogs, you are forced to accept the less good rooms in the hotel, for a whopping £15 a night surcharge. In addition to this, none of the public areas allow dogs meaning that you're either trapped in your dark back room with your dog or forced to roam outside in what could be terrible weather. Personally,... More

"Not technically dog friendly" actually raised a wry smile of disbelief when I read your review. Let me correct on a number of inaccuracies in your review. 1. We have 3 designated rooms in the hotel for dogs- 1 in each different category - this is to ensure we have the capability of ensuring we do not allocate rooms to... More

My husband and I stayed here for three nights from 05/10/2014 as a short 'mini-moon'. It was a great place to relax and unwind after the craziness of our wedding. The setting is picture perfect, ferry to Lismore is on your doorstep and the beach is right there. Staff were welcoming and accomodating. reliable wifi. Great food, especially the breakfast.... More

The seafood is superb. I had the seafood platter. The other dishes also do not disappoint, my husband enjoyed the venison. Breakfast was also of a very high quality. The room was plain but comfortable and the shower room although small was beautifully decorated. The sea view was lovely, watching the little ferry coming in. The walk up behind the... More

Stayed here many times over the years and different ownerships . So glad to see that the standards and quality have not only been maintained , but improved. Perfect waterside location complemented with an excellent seafood biased menu- just as it should be. Oh we'll be back!

Superb location with spectacular views. The food was of a high quality, with very generous portion sizes. Friendly and attentive staff. Very accommodating and helpful from a coeliac/gluten free perspective.

We endeavour to cater for all dietary requirements wherever possible, with as many of our dishes being gluten free as feasible. I am delighted you appreciated our spectacular location and enjoyed the quality of our food and the size of the dishes. I very much hope you will visit us again next time you are in Scotland.
