The hotel is situate in an unique location just in front of the lake. I partiucarly liked that all common parts are decorated with real antiquities. The personel was nice and the room was nice even if not too big. The breakfast was generous and served in a nice location. The restaurant need improvment with the service and there is... More

Charming historical hotel in a medieval monastery building complex in the little medieval Vadstena city at the Lake Vättern, one of the largest lakes in Sweden, surrounded by old trees. Our group arrived without booking on a late March weekday on our bird watching tour in the area (Lake Tåkern nearby is a must for all bird lovers), and got... More

First of all, this hotel has several building some of which date back to the mid-13:th century. And by Swedish law they are forbidden to make major changes to the building. Changes that in too great extent change the buildings them selves. This means no elevators, no floor heating in the bathroom etc. If you are disabled in any way... More

A lovely place to stay on Lake Vattern. The room was comfortable, breakfast was abundant, staff was helpful. When I made the reservation I was strongly encouraged to make a reservation for the restaurant if I thought we would want to eat there as they are usually booked. The restaurant was not full and it was a good thing. The... More

Despite the official rating, you do not get a 4-star experience in this hotel despite paying 4- star prices. The bathrooms are not up to standard, toiletries, towels, etc all sub standard for this class of property. Soap and shampoo are in dispensers fixed to the wall, as in a youth hostel. No stopper in sink (to prevent guests doing... More

Other reviewers have highlighted the good and the bad points of the hotel particularly the use of the two annexes about 10 mins from the hotel. They were fine for us, great atmosphere, lovely antiques , like walking and staying back in time. The annex would be problematic for older or disabled guests in terms of access and the lack... More

AMBIENCE - Originally built in the mid-1200s by Birger Jarl, Vadstena Klosterhotel evolved into an abbey and monastery, founded in 1384 by St. Birgitta. It housed both nuns and monks in its heyday, which lasted until the late 1500s until Duke Karl shut it down. It served various purposes over the next 400 years, including housing soldier's families, a hospital... More

This is a very nice hotel, and I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again. Although you might expect a converted monastery would have small rooms, in fact the room I had was quite generously sized for a European hotel. The room was reasonably well appointed with a private bathroom. The hotel itself is very close to the lake, which is... More

The hotel was once a monastery, and the buildings still have much of that character, However the guest rooms have been expertly updated to provide all the conveniences that we expect these days. My bathroom had a modern shower behind a sliding glass partition, the room had a TV which receives 11 TV channels plus 3 radio stations, and the... More

I and my fiancé spent a weekend here. We expected a romantic weekend and weren’t disappointed. The room was fantastic, the view excellent and the service very good. My fiancé had a spa-treatment and was very happy with it. We also had the afternoon tea that was extremely good and worth a stay in itself. Only disappointment was that the... More
