A lovely cosy guest house in Salt Rock with a beach only a short walk away and a couple of good local restaurants. We spent 6 days here and despite not having a car we were able to use recommend tour guides to explore Kwa Zulu Natal - highlights were the Drakensburg Mountains, Hluhluwe Safari Park and St Lucia Wetlands.... I arrived late and had to go to the airport very early. Ian was very helpful and even made me a breakfast on the go when he noticed I had an early flight to catch. Room is clean, huge bathroom and I like the wooden balcony in front of the room. The only thing I missed was a desk in... More

Our room was very comfortable and this and the bathroom were reasonably well appointed. The shower, with no curtain or screen left the bathroom floor very wet and slippery every time it was used - a screen or enclosure is really needed. The approach to the room from the car park required a lot of steps - difficult for the... More

Thank you for your review of your five night stay at our guest house. I must admit I was quiet surprised at the amount of negativity mentioned here as it did not appear that you were unhappy during your stay, Unfortunately I really am unable to do anything about the five steps at the side of the house and the... We stayed in Saffron House on our way from St. Lucia to Underberg for one night. It's not necessarily a 4* place but we booked through hostelworld and didn't expect a really posh place. The rooms were neat and lovely decorated. The TV could have been a little bigger :-). The breakfast was good and the owner made great efforts... More

Situated on a quiet street in a popular resort, we loved the tranquility and the wonderful location. Not overlooking the ocean, but we could hear the sound of the waves, plus the delightful waterfall into the sheltered swimming pool. Ian was very friendly and welcoming, offering a varied and very reasonable selection of wines to buy on site, and also... More

Ian Gumbley and his wife Jenny are genial hosts at this guest house, tucked away on a quiet side road, in sub-tropical gardens with a pool, within walking distance of the beach, close to some lovely restaurants and cafes, the iconic retro Salt Rock Hotel (worth visiting for a drink and reminiscent of the East African Coast), golf courses and... Been here twice. Friendly, personal and clean. Can't ask for more. The spot is beautiful, the pool is clean and there is plenty of parking. Breakfast is hot, made to order and the French toast is killer bee.

We recently made a trip back to our native RSA from the UK and we took some family with us for the break. We were astounded to find such a super B & B in Salt Rock, having holidayed in the area over so many years in the past. The welcome is super, our rooms full of luxury and comfort... More
