We arrived there late at night as it is one of the only still standing hostel recommended by LP (almost all the old town was burned to the ground last January). We had the feeling that is was supposed to be closed but they opened it for us. Because it is the off season I understand that there was nobody... More

This took some finding. It's right on the edge of the destroyed area of the old town and there are no street signs in English once you get close, we were also pointed in different directions by locals, despite having the address in Chinese. We had a double room with a bathroom. It was cold, but the thick quilt and... More

we ended up here after a sleeper bus to Shangri-la, i recall it being really basic. Lots of untreated timber in a timber hostel and nothing too appealing about it besides a cozy doona on a freezing morning.

Stayed in a dorm. The upside is the the location is great in the Old City, very close to the main square. The younger guy from the family that runs this place speaks great English and was super helpful. Dorm room for 6 was in good shape, with individual jacks and lights for each bed. I also heard that the... More

In terms of location, Dragon Cloud is situated in Dukezong Acient Town and close to restaurants. Stayed 1 night at the twin sharing ensuite (Room 101). We were initially given room 102 and later found the light in the bathroom not working. Both rooms are very old and rundown, power sockets do not work well too. Bathroom is very dirty... More

High five to the owner who is helpful in every way and is fluent in English. We used this hostel as a base during our time in north Yunnan and always looked forward to the comfortable beds, hot water and good wifi. Its close proximity to a great Indian restaurant and the delicious barbeques of old towns main square is... More

Room was dirty, very noisy (glass sliders provide zero noise insulation) and the bathroom was pitiful. The one drain in the bathroom floor wouldn't drain so of course the entire bathroom flooded every time we showered. And when it flooded you could really see how filthy the floor was, even though it was bare concrete, by the stuff floating around.... More

This hostel is in a great location down a quiet street in the old town. The rooms, while small, are clean, comfortable and ours had an electric blanket. The rooms with bathroom don't have a doors on the toilet so you'll need to leave the room if your travel companion wants to avail themselves of the ammenities. There is a... More

This hostel has basically two types of rooms: the newly renovated ones and the older ones. We stayed in a newly renovated room for 100 Yuan (first floor) and the room was great. Good bed, nice colours, excellent bathroom. The common room/bar has potential with comfy couches, but there is no vibe. This is mainly due to the lack of... More

This hostel was highly rated in Lonely Planet and Hostelworld, and I have absolutely no clue why. Location: Prime location, in the heart of Old Town Shangri-la. There are other places, such as this other hostel (the name escapes me, not in English) 50 meters south down the pedestrian road/alley. Room (twin private): Very dim and dark, especially the bathroom... More
