I have stayed here many times on business and once with my wife. Always a great welcome. The rooms are all comfortable and the food is good - breakfast in particular. It's situation in a reasonably small market town is also a plus. Well worth a visit.

I stayed here for one night when on business in the area. It's a small place, little more than a pub with rooms, but very welcoming and comfortable. Some might consider the rooms a bit dated but the decor and furnishings are what you would expect from this type of property. The bar is well stocked and serving good quality... More

We tayed here as a group of 7, the staff were very helpful and pleasant. The rooms were good & the beds very comfortable after a long day on our feet (we'd come from ly by foot - 20 miles!) We ate at the hotel in the evening - the food was good and plentiful, breakfasts next morning were equally... More

I stayed at the Castle because my football club were playing in the town. The hotel looks quirky rather than tired but it really is fine. The room was very clean and everything worked well. The hospitality tray was generous and the bed comfortable. The food, especially the breakfast, was well-presented. The service was good. I would stay at the... More

a reviewer said how tired the hotel felt and the owner responded what do you expect, its a 300 year old building. however i have stayed in 17th century farm houses before and have found them to be immaculate so this comment doesn't stack up! I also found a tiredness to the place and had to move rooms due to... More

Last weekend we spent three very enjoyable nights at the castle with a group of friends. Howard and Helen and the staff were extremely friendly and the food was excellent. Our room was spacious and comfortable and the whole place oozed atmosphere. We would definitely stay there again- in fact the planning is in the early stages! Derek & janet

We decided to have a weekend away and to visit some relatives at the same time, the hotel was in a great location close to the local amenities. We checked in late on the Friday and had a bar snack and ate in the cosy bar, the food was delicious and the portions were a good size. The homemade pavlova... More

My husband and I stayed overnight in room 14 whilst visiting friends and family in the local area. We really enjoyed our stayed and the warm welcome we received. The building is full of old character and tastefully decorated in keeping with the buildings period. The room was clean and comfortable and we had a lovely evening meal which we... More

We book the 'honeymoon' suite as this was the only room left with a king size bed ( instead of twins).Rate for busy Bank holiday weekend was £ 140 !!!! The room was spacious, but unbelievably tired with antiques upholstery, dusty curtains and rotten windows ! There is no shower and what they call Jazuzzi is a very old tub... More

Thank you for staying with us at the Castle Hotel and I am sorry to hear that you did not enjoy your stay. Unfortunately there was a problem with the TV that could have been fixed but you would not allow maintenance to access your room. As for the room being dated, the Castle is a 370 year old coaching... It was a pleasant place to stay very clean. However it was over priced the room was compact and the corner of the bed was so close to the window it made the walkway around the bed dangerous due to the sash window . The breakfast was of poor quality our scrambled eggs were made from powdered eggs and sausages... More

Dear Leanne, Thank you for staying with us at the Castle Hotel and we appreciate you taking the time to write a review. We are sorry to hear that you were disappointed with your stay.
