I booked my 5 day 4 night trek with Fantasitco Sur from the US a few weeks before my trip. Patricia Reyes was extremely helpful and was the reason my trip went so smoothly. I traveled in April, which is fall in Chile, and it was extremely cold in the refugio and the dorm room. I did have an entire... More

I hiked up to Refugio Grey with a group of 6 after having issues with the reservations and still had problems. When I looked up a room for 6 it said they were all unavailable so we ended up all just getting individual beds, I emailed them with the request to put us in a room for 6 if the... More

We were lucky and visited when it was quiet so had a whole dorm room for ourselves. The dorm rooms we saw slept 4-6 people and the beds were comfortable. Our room was quite dark and very cold however but had two power sockets which was great. We hired sleeping bags which were clean. We weren't given liners but had... More

Comfortable and clean but small 4-bunk rooms. Warm lounge, dining room and bar area. Friendy staff. Good food despite remote location. A welcoming haven after a long walk-in. Short walk to good views of Glacier Grey.

Returned from a recent overnight stay in the "made bed" accommodations (only booked this because the cheaper beds were sold out). Pros - Beds were comfortable, warm, and relatively clean (my husband's comforter had faded brown stains all over it, but at least they were obviously older stains that been laundered a few times). Common lounge area of the refugio... More

The camping here was very crowded, i.e. tents on top of each other (and this is on the borderline off season, I can't imagine what it would be like in season). They had plenty of space (double the space they allowed folks to use) but it was sectioned off for "recuperation". The cooking area was very small and crowded as... More

We stayed at Refugio Grey on the last night of the W trek and it definitely surpassed expectations. Bedrooms were really clean & we were provided with sheets rather than sleeping bags. We were also given towels, soap & shampoo which was a great addition. Showers were hot & powerful and the common area had a number of comfy sofas... More

We stayed at the refugio for one night and advise hikers not to if they don't really have to. The refugio itself is nice with a nicely decorated dining hall. The rooms are OK and clean, so are the bathroom facilities. Showers were warm. The staff at the reception was friendly. We had asked in advance if it was possible... More

Refugio Grey was burned down on 28 December 2011 due to wildfires arising from a campers' stove, and was consequently rebuilt. This new Refugio is therefore only 2 years old, is fresh and tastefully decorated - with a lovely mountain hut feel. The communal area is spacious with comfortable sofas, 2 log fires, cute bookshelf and coffee tables, and is... More
