This timber made small hotel gives us a very warm welcome feeling from the moment we arrived the reception. The staff assist us to check in, tour us the restaurant and onsens, then show us our room, brewed hot green tea and served us the welcome snack. Truly hospitality. We took the room package with BBQ Seafood Dinner. It included... More

We stayed here in May, unfortunately we the weather didn't play so nice. Mt Aso was shrouded in clouds the entire time we were there. Now, the Aso no Shiki. We had booked the half board option, and I recommend you do the same. The staff doesn't speak English--but they are trying to accomodate you. I had a note that... More

We stayed here in March 2015. This ryokan was very clean, the service was excellent and the baths were all great. They have four different baths – all for private use (you just have to flip the sign to show that you are using it). We only got to try two of them but they were both great. The water... More

I visited this ryokan with my family including my parents. The staff were so friendly with a wonderful warm greeting on arrival. The rooms were spacious and clean, quite standard for a nice ryokan. The dinner was very nice - we have the robatayaki courses and were not disappointed. Loads of food and nice range of drinks. The wine list... More

When you don't have a car at Aso no Shikii, they don't call you a cab - they drive you! Wonderful hospitality, great food, lovely baths, if you want a genuine Japanese experience, this ticks all the boxes. When we left for the 30 minute trip to Kumamoto they pressed a " picnic lunch" into our hands - they knew... More

This is a good Japanese Onsen Lodge which is near Aso (about 30-40 minute drive)with reasonable price. The lodge is furnished with many timber and local flowers. Instead of having traditional male and female onsen bath, it has four private onsen rooms sharing between the guests. The room is spacious and clear with fully equipped bathroom and complete in-room provision... More

We have visited this Ryokan several times and it is always the highlight of our trip. The traditional Japanese rooms are all really clean and well appointed and the staff are polite and courteous. On arrival, you are served tea and cake and made to feel very welcome. In the evening, it is always such a treat to be able... More

This traditional ryokan is a little gem. The food is terrific. If you eat in the dining room, you cook your food on a wood fire. The sashimi is terrific. Wonderful Japanese breakfast and dinner is included. There are four different hot baths each open to the outside. The traditional Japanese rooms are small but very comfortable. The owner speaks...
