This is one of the worst hotels in Japan I stayed at. The hotel was very run down and old. It had a musty old smell as soon you walk in. I am a non-smoker and quite sensitive to smoking. This place just smelt like an ash tray. People smoke in the rooms, in the hallways, in the stairs, everywhere....

I feel quite bad as I have never needed to leave such a negative review before. However Aso Hakuun is one of the worst hotel experiences I have ever had. I have had better nights camping in a tent. Speaking of camping, I covered myself in DEET the night I stayed here as I was really unsure of the cleanliness...
