seemed a bit strange to be in this type of hotel with a japanese room The futons were very thin, so very hard on the floor, for us but we are in our late 60s, so that makes a difference.. A saving grace we did have chairs. Our room was on the front and the main road is busy. There is... More

We stayed here 1 night. We got the travel agent to call and book the free shuttle for us and it was nice to have someone waiting for us when we got off the train and whisk us to the hotel. Ride was about 10 mins. Hotel was large we got a Japanese room and slept on the floor. Wifi... More

We stayed in a Japanese room for a night on 2015, Feb 23. Though the size stated is 12.4 sqm, it looks much bigger than expected with more than enough space for a few big luggage, and there is a separate area for toilet/shower. The futon is comfortable and there is a balcony with 2 chairs and a table facing... More

stayed there for a night in Sep 14. Room was huge and you can choose to sleep on the tatami or the beds. Our stay there also comes with traditional Japanese dinner and buffet breakfast, Onsens are available in the hotel. There is a small shop selling tibits and Japanese pastries.

This is a big hotel for families. The room was nice, but, unfortunately, the toilet smelled strongly, as if it had not been cleaned for some time. After asking the staff to clean it, the smell was less strong but some smell remained for the 3 nights we spent there. We almost left the hotel because of that, but, as... More

What’s good? (a) Spacious room. I get a huge room (by Japanese standard) with a balcony thrown in. No complaints! (b) Excellent view. There was unobstructed view of the caldera rim in the distance and of the remaining volcanoes. Each morning, as I woke up, I was reminded that I was staying in the middle of the caldera. What a... Our party of four (adults and teens) stayed here recently for one night. It was our first stay at a ryokan. We were disappointed at first to find out it was a "modern" ryokan, but that soon passed as we were amazed by our experience. We were particularly impressed by the service level accorded. We booked the hotel through a... More

Review slightly biased as we were privileged to be upgraded to a palacial suite. Sensational Ryokan room probably 15 mats in size. Plus TV sitting room spare room. The lovliest onsens, both inside & out (magnificent garden setting), plus a rooftop one to view smouldering Mt Aso. Well presented banquet dinner with helpful hostess (little English, but willing to help).... More

Good points: beautiful onsen and rotenburo. Welcoming staff and friendly and relaxed atmosphere. Excellent food - evening meal was very very well presented. Beautiful well-kept garden. Easy parking and access. The staff attempted to communicate in English, although I speak Japanese, but my parents dont. Bad points: Rooms are old and in need of refurbishment. Pillows and towels are really... More
