We had a nice 1 night here. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly. The room was the largest we have had in Japan (would recommend getting one with shower, they kindly upgraded us which was lucky as the onsen are public). You have to borrow a router from reception but the wi-fi was excellent. Like most hotels in Toyako... More

This is the worst experience my family and I have ever had in Japan. One of the four eggs they provided for the breakfast was spoilt with absolutely disgusting smell, and as you know people tend to eat raw eggs in Japan, making the whole incidence more unacceptable. The reaction of the hotel manager was as poor as the egg,... More

I was in Lake toya area recently and booked this hotel seeing the ranking in booking.com Howeve, I was dis appointed when I checked in at this hotel as staff is not friendly at all. Rooms are small and bathrooms are like a small cage. The other probe pm is that staff does not speak English at all which make... More

The reception team is more concerned with room occupancy whilst totally lacks customer service and hospitality. Due to inconsistencies between hotel & our booking record, our check-in was long and tedious. A rude man who spoke better English was roped in by the male receptionist. The entire check-in experience was extremely bad & definitely affected our stay. We were given... More

Our party of 8 booked two 4-people rooms in Hotel Grand Toya from Booking.com at a reasonable price. Hotel Grand Toya is only a 5 min walk from Toyako Onsen bus station, which is in turn a 25 min bus ride from JR Toya Station. Upon arrival, the ryokan manager clearly briefed us on the hotel’s regulations (e.g. luggages are... More

Stayed here for one nights in July 2014, the building is really dated, but overall still an ok place given the price and location. It has a good view through the windows to Toya-ko. We just watch the fireworks through the windows. The meal served was good.

Had driven hours to get here through snow and the greeting was far from warm. Efficient but cold. Collected money and showed us the room. Instructions in English on a cheat sheet so that there was no misunderstanding. Pleasant medium sized tatami room, with attached toilet. No bath. Used the hot bath once. Small old and utilitarian. No meals taken... More

A great winter trip, snow everywhere. Hotel by the lake. The tatami room was very good, the view wonderful, the onsen fantastic. No other westerners there. No English spoken, but you'll manage with your phrase book. Get the local bus from the train station, and get off at the last stop, then walk 100 meters directly across one the road... More

Although the facilities in this hotel isn't spanking new, I quite enjoyed my stay here. My room location was not very good and it was right at the lift on the 1st floor which led to the dining room and the onsen. But the noise level was still ok. Futon beds were laid out when we went to have dinner... More

GRAND LAKE TOYA HOTEL Pros 1) Good location by the lake. 2) Japanese room (lake facing) was good for viewing fireworks (10 mins) 3) Room had piped-in instrumental music, which was refreshing. Music stopped at 8.45pm when fireworks started. Began at 8am the next morning. 4) Dining lady - pleasant and helpful. Cons 1) Rude Japanese man at Reception -... More
