We stayed over New Years. Returned Jan.4.15. I wasn't sure what to write about this hotel. We have travelled to Cuba 24 times. This trip was with our daughter and her husband. The company, the weather and the service was great. The hotel is in a transition of name change. I think the management could have dealt with problems a... More

This hotel has recently changed to the Starfish in December 2014, and is experiencing serious disorganization, staffing and service problems. We travelled from Jan. 2 - 9, 2015, and met up with family in which we had a wonderful time together. The hotels issues can be easily resolved, and were improving towards the end of our trip, but at our... More

Hotel From Hell !!! Avoid this hotel at any cost, even $200 tax in all inclusive. No cheap ammount of money, no beautiful crystal clear caribbean waters, will fix the emotional tormentation that you will receive at this hotel. Stay away, pleople. This is official: The Worst Hotel in Cuba !!!

Gaviota La Estrella is now The Starfish Cayo Santa Maria. We just spent 2 weeks (Xmas and New Year) at this resort. The hotel is very large and divided into 2 sections each with its own pool. Some areas are still not ready to receive guests. We stayed at the Starfish section, which is the right side of the resort.... More

Stayed here in Feb 2014, was a good place for vacation, flea market next door, good drinks, clean areas, Food was decent , above average for Cuba. No concerns , had a good time. There was a flea market within walking distance, there was the best pina coladas there.

I don’t usually write reviews but my experience here was so stressful and future travellers must be warned. The toilets here almost never work, sometimes because the resort can lose running water for days but mostly because they are not good quality. The snack bar smells like sewage because sewers are located just beside it and for some reason stink... More

Fantastic beach & weather. The rest is very poor. No on site management or security, as the resort was apparently purchased by "Starfish" and is currently recruiting all new staff. Bad food selection, no signage anywhere telling you where/when anything is - making it difficult to make any plans. The enormous resort is very badly lit at night, making it... More

Beach: in a nut shell, was excellent, white sand, clear water without debis on the bottom, no drop offs whatsoever. Only negative is that snorkelling is uneventful if this is what you are looking for to be part of your vacation adventure. We were able to lure fish in towards us by feeding them bread from the buffet. There's a... More

Great atmosphere, found the staff to be lovely and quite helpful. I never felt like I had a dollars sign on my forehead and the beach was spectacular. Probably one of the best beaches I have seen. The best food for me was the burgers by the beach bar... and if they run out of napkins and plates... go with... More

I have stayed in Husa (New Years 2013 and 2 weeks January 2014). I can't ever understand why Husa (former Barceló ) now Gaviota has such a bad reviews and very low rating. Food - I was never hungry and plenty to choose from. However what is amazing to me may not be good enough for you. If you fancy... More
