My family stayed for two nights in a Vlei cottage at De Hoop Nature Reserve. The cottage was very comfortable and clean and in a very peaceful and remote location. We went on a guided marine walk to the beautiful beach a few miles from the cottages. Unfortunately it started to rain so we didn't get to see the rock... More

We only had two nights in the cottage at De Hoop and could have happily stayed much longer. The rooms were comfy and the kitchen well equipped but you are really there for the location. Each cottage is detached and you wake up to ostrich and bontebok strolling past the door. The restaurant is only a short walk up the... More

We did a quick 1 night stop in a cottage in De Hoop Nature Reserve. It was amazing. The reserve itself is so worth the visit. We swan in the beautiful green sea on a nice hot day. The cottage was perfect for our group : clean, well equiped, nice braai area outside. But we decided to eat at the... More

Stayed in the Blue Crane, an Opstal house in De Hoop. Very peaceful and private with lots of space. Boma with braai is great. It has a table under a milkwood tree. Well appointed houses and very helpful staff combined with a beautiful nature reserve make this a special place to stay.

The self-equipped cottage is very spacious and nicely furnished. They are completely equipped for a longer stay (including kitchen). We ate at the restaurant. Food was good. Nice service. Location at the heart of the national park. We recommend for relaxing and quite days with possiblity of long walks along the beach. They offer various activities like guided walks, quad... More

Our only disappointing destination out of 11 during our 5 week trip to South Africa. Our cottage, which could be really nice, was very dated.Internet use was charged and was poor anyway.Meals and staff were OK. Maps provided were poor with walking routes very limited indeed apparently due to flooding two months previously. All road fairly grim to drive on.... More

Definitely one for nature lovers, and you really need good weather to enjoy a stay here as there is very little to do if it is raining and out of whale season. Getting to it is an adventure in itself. We had to stop in Bredasdorp and ask as the signage was so difficult to find (coming out of Bredasdorp... More

After a 1 hour drive on unmade roads we finally arrived at De Hoop. The nature reserve is massive. After checking in and seeing our accommodation we were a bit deflated and began to make plans to check out the following morning and move on. But after speaking with other guests, staff and having a great evening meal we decided... More

The reserve itself is quite nice and the stay could be the same IF: - the staff had a training in hospitality - the restaurant was serving something else than cheap canteen food - the rules were not thrown at your face in an aggressive manner by a snooty receptionist - you did not have to fight for anything ....... Cannot imagine why anyone would go to the trouble of staying here just for one night. It is not on the 'usual' tourist route. You have to make the effort and be prepared to put up with a dirt/gravel road, which for small saloon cars might not be that comfortable or expected. But this is a HUGE and remote location,... More
