Before the praise, a question. After a break of 20 years (children!), my wife and I are back to touring France by car. When did hotels (quite expensive ones too) stop staffing their reception areas during the day? We arrive at 3:30pm, inspired by Maiar66's report ("We arrived in mid afternoon & Stephan prepared a light lunch for us to... More

Thanks to Stephan for running a beautiful well kept hotel. We had Le Royal Suite which opened out to view of the Loire River. It is a lovely 2 room suite with beautiful bath & amenities. Rooms were decorated very nicely & the bed was very comfortable. We have stayed in many hotels in France (many Relais & Chateaux) &... More

With an excellent location on the Loire river bank, this is a B&B with good rooms and a very good continental breakfast. All this in a mediaval building. Friendly staff. Clean and cosy in a small village 20 km away from Orleans. Very good access to A10 highway. There is a Michelin rated restaurant in the same building.

When I realised we were heading for a room on the second floor I knew my husband would not cope with the stairs. This is a 14th century building with no lift. When I explained the problem to the receptionist she immediately found us something on the first floor. The view overlooking the Loire was superb. On the way to... More

It is hard to think of a nicer location for a small hotel than right on the banks of the beautiful Loire with just a grassy slope between your bedroom and the river. Our room was extremely large and comfortable (we went for a slightly better room than the basic) and stylish. Waking up in the morning to the sight... More

Two of us stayed here overnight on our way back from the Dordogne to Calais. We thought the hotel looked good in reviews and pictures and we were not disappointed! It is situated on the bank of the Loire near to a string of small islands that form a set of rapids - quite soporific late at night. The interior... More

The location in unbeatable: right on the Loire, across the remains of what once was a bridge where Joan of Arc crossed the river. The historic building is very charming, especially the green courtyard is a great place to sit and soak up the atmosphere. The room itself had a view on the Loire, but had an attack feel. The... We stayed for 2 nights and were very satisfied. The service is attentive, the rooms are spacious for French Standards and the chef does his job well. The hotel is nicely situated on the river. Do not miss to rent bikes and make a tour along the Loire river.

Fantastic hotel for 1 night stop over. Not far from the highway and the surroundings are so quiet! Our room (Le Mandarin) had a view of the Loire. They also have a fabulous restaurant where we had one of our best meals on our holiday in France. Breakfast was good too! Just thought that the bed was too soft but... More

Not far off the A75, heading south, just past Orleans is the town of Meung-sur-Loire. This was an excellent venue for breaking the journey from Calais to the south of France. The spacious room (called 'Jeanne' after the Maid of Orleans) overlooked the river Loire, and was equipped with a spa bath and a large comfortable bed. The restaurant was... More
