We stayed here three nights in late December, having stopped many times before for a beer or lunch. The location is, of course, superb and makes this a winning place without any further ado. The dining room and the lounge are two lovely rooms - nicely furnished, comfortable and elegant. Our bedroom - recently refurbished - was good too: spacious... more

Still good in many way, but the food and service in particular has slipped somewhat. Maybe they get the occupancy levels without having to try very hard? Hopefully things will recover? more

We stayed for one night at the end of a very wet week's camping so thoroughly enjoyed spoiling ourselves. I would agree with all positive comments already made. A couple of things to add: if you go for the fine dining option for dinner, rather than the bar, note that they have a dress code and say that they won't... more

This hotel was an unexpected gem in the less touristed western Lake District on Lake Buttermere that we just happened to find without an advance booking. The hotel has operated over 100 years in this building, but has been updated, is well maintained and very tastefully decorated. The guest living room is very inviting and the breakfast room is elegant.... more

The Bridge is quite pricey - but if you want a room with a view and brilliant access to Lake District walks then it's hard to beat. There's a nice bar serving local beers and a cosy lounge for residents. Breakfast was great. Dinner is a traditional affair with four courses - but you can always opt for the bar... more

Buttermere is an idyllic place in the Lakes. The Bridge Hotel is in a wonderful location with walks on the fells direct from the hotel. Our room was quite large, clean, comfortable and well appointed. The breakfasts on our two night stay were very good. The only problem was with dinner in the evening. The service in the restaurant was... more

We have used the Bridge Hotel for many years whilst walking and camping in the area. We would do all our eating and drinking in the Bridge. I have not been over for 18monts, what a change. Cheapest beer £3.30. Food very expensive. Tables and menus dirty, place empty!!! We used the Fish all weekend. Beer £2.60 food good and... more

Lovely well set up accommodation. Beautiful public rooms. Dining did not reach this standard.Main courses too complex and desserts rather "heavy". Would recommend b &b not dining. more

Jun 10, 2008 | Trip type: Family

It was a wonderful location and we had a relaxing weekend strolling around the lakes and surrounding areas. The bar and restaurant served good meals and there was a good selection of drinks. It was a wonderful occasion and family celebration. However, the decor within the bar and restuarant appeared to be a little tired. For what was a 3... more
