We had walked round the far side of the lake and were ready for a hot drink. Although the signs indicated that the inn was open for refreshments, the side door was locked and a film crew were busy setting up equipment outside. The main entrance was not intended for use by walkers but we took the liberty of using... More

This pub has an excellent setting between Buttermere and Crummock Water, with both fell and lakeside walks easily accessible. There is ample parking in the grounds or to the side there is a pay and display car park. I visited the pub after a day on the fells with a friend. Excellent choice of ales and good service. As is... Unlike "unbelievably rude" we parked in the pay and display car park. We had a lovely lunch in the Fish Inn (they stop serving at 2.00). Then after lunch we enjoyed a wonderful walk around the lake. Back to lunch, portions are huge but quality was excellent. The range of beers was great, too. We would definitely ho back.

october 3rd 2014 a group of 40 somethings pulled into the car park planning a walk to haystacks with the idea of then having a drink and food afterwards here there were around 4 car loads of us. The proprietor came out and said "am I missing something here?". I spoke with him and said that we were parking here... More

Been going here for years. On our latest visit we had great Turkey sandwiches and a big pot of tea. Couldn't fault it. Very popular place too, staff nice and a lovely ambience. They also do a fantastic Ploughmans that I'm looking forward too next time. Great pub!

My wife and I first visited the Fish 39 years ago when we were on our honeymoon and this was our first time back. We were pleased to see that the warm and friendly welcome was the same and the rooms have been modernised to a very high standard. We had a room with a genuine king size bed and... More

First of all I have to say I have never actually stayed the night here however I have eaten and drunk in the bar many times over the years I have always found the food excellent with plenty of it and GVF. They have a fair number of real ales on at anyone time. Although quite modernish in the bar... More

Tuesday dawned fine again so a trip by bus to Buttermere was the plan. The Buttermere Rambler bus (nos 77 going anticlockwise and the 77a going clockwise) leaves Keswick on the half hour going one way or the other. An excellent scenic ride to Buttermere where we alighted for lunch. We looked at the two hotels and opted for the... More

location is fantastic. But food very poor, the kind of pub grub you would have expected in the the 1980s. Bar Meals - frozen chips, poor salad and salmon was wafer thin and full of bones, grilled on only one side (too thin to do anything else) and overcooked. Steak and mushroom pot pie was very peppery and far too... More
