We had a week at Hassness House as members of a Ramblers group booked with Ramblers Holidays. The accommodation is comfortable and the food excellent . Best vegetarian food we have had for quite a while. Shower and toilets are not en suite but there are 5 bathrooms for 12 rooms so this does not present a problem. As a... More

I signed up for a 2 day 3 night navigation course with the Ramblers and was very impressed with the accommodation at Hassness House. Some of the bedrooms are rather unusual shapes, but they all have spectacular views of Buttermere, while the showers, bathrooms and toilets are across the corridor. I do not eat meat, but this was not a... More

My husband and I stayed here for a week's walking holiday with the Ramblers Association. The lounge is even more homely and cosy in real life than the pictures would indicate. Brian, Carole and Ruby work incredibly hard to make the experience special and memorable. It was easy to see why the Ramblers Association calls this the jewel in their... More

Thanks very much for posting your review, we’re really pleased to hear you enjoyed your stay with us at Hassness and hope to see you again soon. Just to clarify though, Hassness Country House and its operators Ramblers Worldwide Holidays are unconnected to the Ramblers Association (The Rambers) despite having a similar name. We do however provide direct funding to... More

Stayed here while on a Women's Activity Week holiday . Had a single room room which had a lovely view of the lake and was directly opposite a shower & loo. Although there is no ensuite, there was never a problem finding an empty shower room. Breakfast & Dinner were amazing, with a variety of dishes served during the week.... More

Charming and welcoming . Guys who run the place pay attention to every single details . Fantastic dinners and breakfast and very clean rooms and shower with a local made soap and shampoo /conditioner dispenser in it. After a long day of hiking you can't wait to use their product instead of yours .They smell so lovely pure organic :))... More

We took over the whole of Hassness House for 5 days, with our wedding guests. We got married at the register office in Cockermouth and spent 4 glorious days with our wedding guests and family at Hassness House. Carole and Brian were wonderful, making sure everything was catered for. The accomodation is beautifully and tastefully decorated in keeping with the... More

This really is the place to go to get away from it all. No TV or mobile signal....Brilliant! (do have Wi-Fi) Superbly situated to walk some of the most stunning hills in the UK. Food excellent and hospitality faultless. And a special thanks to Mike for guiding us around the summits.

Stayed on 4 night Ramblers Holiday and really enjoyed it. Rooms are not "en-suite" but bathroom is just across the Hall and it is not a problem. Carol and Brian keep a very well run and very clean establishment. Views from the hotel are stunning and food is excellent. No mobile phone signal or TV at the Hotel, but it... More

Unparalleled views from all guest bedrooms, comfortable accommodation, lovely, home cooked food and right in the heart of Wainwright country so a perfect base for walking. The lack of en-suite facilities is more than compensated for by the unbeatable location. Don’t let it put you off. The showers are hot and powerful and there are plenty of them.
