Stayed at Hassness for 3 days, the house is beautiful and my room was great. All rooms have the same beautiful view of a lake and waterfall. The staff were wonderful in that they accommodated my dietary needs - I'm not a meat eater with lactose intolerance. My thanks to Carol, Brian and Ruby. Also big thanks to our guide... More

We stayed at Hassness house which is situated in an outstanding location; overlooks Buttermere lake and in direct view of Haystacks , that is truly beautiful. The house itself is scrupulous clean, cosy and very comfortable with a guest kitchen to make teas and a fridge to store your own wine and food. Not en-suite but many very clean bathrooms... More

Just back from a 3 day mini break with The Ramblers. It helped of course that we enjoyed superb weather but I must really compliment both The Ramblers and the managers, Brian and Carol for how well run the hotel is and friendly with a lovely atmosphere. Gorgeous setting, all rooms have stunning views . Bedrooms are not ensuite but... More

We booked through Ramblers Holidays and stayed here for a week. The rooms vary in size and layout (ours was an L-shaped twin) but all overlook the lake and are nice and kept very clean. The walls are a bit thin, although it's not a rowdy crowd so works out fine. The food was a highlight, being a cooked breakfast... More

This was our second trip to Hassness, and we were worried it couldn't live up to the first. How wrong we were! Carole and Brian are fantastic hosts. Everything is spotless and they always make us feel at home. The food is fabulous. I have a dairy allergy but this is not a problem for Brian or Ruby - I... More

We had a week at Hassness House as members of a Ramblers group booked with Ramblers Holidays. The accommodation is comfortable and the food excellent . Best vegetarian food we have had for quite a while. Shower and toilets are not en suite but there are 5 bathrooms for 12 rooms so this does not present a problem. As a... More

I signed up for a 2 day 3 night navigation course with the Ramblers and was very impressed with the accommodation at Hassness House. Some of the bedrooms are rather unusual shapes, but they all have spectacular views of Buttermere, while the showers, bathrooms and toilets are across the corridor. I do not eat meat, but this was not a... More

My husband and I stayed here for a week's walking holiday with the Ramblers Association. The lounge is even more homely and cosy in real life than the pictures would indicate. Brian, Carole and Ruby work incredibly hard to make the experience special and memorable. It was easy to see why the Ramblers Association calls this the jewel in their... More

Thanks very much for posting your review, we’re really pleased to hear you enjoyed your stay with us at Hassness and hope to see you again soon. Just to clarify though, Hassness Country House and its operators Ramblers Worldwide Holidays are unconnected to the Ramblers Association (The Rambers) despite having a similar name. We do however provide direct funding to... More

Stayed here while on a Women's Activity Week holiday . Had a single room room which had a lovely view of the lake and was directly opposite a shower & loo. Although there is no ensuite, there was never a problem finding an empty shower room. Breakfast & Dinner were amazing, with a variety of dishes served during the week.... More

Charming and welcoming . Guys who run the place pay attention to every single details . Fantastic dinners and breakfast and very clean rooms and shower with a local made soap and shampoo /conditioner dispenser in it. After a long day of hiking you can't wait to use their product instead of yours .They smell so lovely pure organic :))... More
