we saw this place in mr steves book it not quite made out as it was in the book . one thing is , It is not a place to stay if you don't have a car which luckily we had . also no atmosphere , If I was going to do it again I would stay in a different... More

We just spent two nights at Lydia's haus...wish I had read all reviews! We were given the tiny little room (spotlessly clean) that faced a very busy highway instead of the rooms that face the moutains. We made our reservations months ago, never dreaming as advertised being a quiet country place, she would even have rooms facing a highway! Very... More

We had a bit of a problem finding the place since it is on the outskirts of town. We had a large two room area under the roof, but unfortunately the main bedroom has windows towards a very busy road nearby. We asked Ms. Mock to move to a different room and she happily agreed to do so the next... More

My wife and I started our 2 week trip to Switzerland in Appenzell (I highly recommend this region as a starting point), and stayed at Haus Lydia for 2 nights. Overall this B&B is a great value and less expensive than hotels ‘in town’. As has been said earlier the rooms are fairly small, clean, with comfortable beds. We were... More

Haus Lydia is a 15 minute walk from the Appenzell train station. We stopped at the tourist information centre to be sure we had the right directions, so it was easy to find. (Lydia showed us a short cut to the town which shortened the walk considerably.) Rooms were very clean and comfortable and the wi-fi worked well in our... More

We stayed at this B & B in wonderful Appenzell. This is a private home with 4-6 rooms. Our room was rather small, but as expected in a home B & B. The room and bathroom were both very clean and functional. Free WiFi in our room worked well. Parking was cramped for 2 cars. If those two spots were... More

My husband and I traveled to Switzerland for the first time and Appenzell was our 1st stop. The town is quaint and friendly and relaxed... just the sort of introduction as we needed after a long trans-Atlantic flight. The hostess at Haus Lydia was friendly, accommodating and spoke fairly good English - we didn't have any trouble communicating with her.... More

We decided to make a stop to break up the ride from Interlaken Switzerland to Fussen Germany. I found Haus Lydia (B&B) and booked a night at the halfway mark on our trip. Appenzell is a quaint town with a nice center and plenty of touristy shops. Although this seemed to be a Swiss - German tourist area the restaurants... More

We had a car; it would be a long walk from the train station but some guests did it. A son in the family had just opened a new restaurant and Lydia (his mother, the owner of the guesthouse) and other family members were helping out at the restaurant; no one was at the guesthouse from mid-afternoon until late at... We stayed in the Edelweiss room, and had an amazing view of the surrounding area. The hostess is very friendly and helps you with what you need. Although it is a bit outside of the centre, it is made up for by the great view from the garden :-)
