The cabins are pretty ok. The bathrooms are clean and the view is beautifull. Apart from the huge bugs against the windows when you light up the room everything is nice. The service was very basic as the people where not really into the English language. In my opinion the looks restaurant where rather poor. I cannot judge the food... More

My wife and I stayed here two nights on a Costa Rica trip looking for special birds. Las Heliconias has some special birds (we saw Umbrella-bird and Keel-billed Mot-mot, and if you can find an ant-swarm you might see the Ground-cuckoo) It would be easy (as a birdwatcher) to spend days on the main trail, which features three suspension bridges... Clean and modern rooms, beautiful views, convenient trails in forest including canopy bridges. Price is about average, meals are extra and add-on for guide required to hike to Lago Danta. No English spoken.

This is a biologist's paradise! I have been bringing my Tropical Biology class from Emory & Henry College in Virginia, USA, here every year for at least the last 10 years. It is an excellent value. The cabins are clean and comfortable, and we always find the service and food excellent. Jorge, Christian, and Henry are always helpful to us.... More

We stayed one night at Heliconias Lodge in one of the cottages on April Fools Day 2013. Our main interest in this area was to hike the Rio Celeste. We arrived early one morning and it was no problem for us to check in and bring our luggage to the cottage, even though check-in was later in the afternoon. The... More

We had pretty similar experiences as reviewer Lydia B. describes. The lodge's staff was very friendly and helpful but the language barrier does not make us feel 100% welcome. I'd just recommend to provide a short English handout with all the essential information on mealtimes, prices and other essential items, which would make it much easer for guests that do... More

We had planned to stay here two nights, but left after the first due to persistent highwinds (not good for bird watching etc.). The trails appear to be in very good shape and seem to be well maintained. The room we had was large, but rather basic and the walls were thin.

We stayed at the Lodge two nights. We wanted to hike the trails and go see the Rio Celeste. Our room was good. Nice view from the balcony. It felt a little confusing when we first got there. We had booked a reservation in advance, but they didn't seem to have us down. The lady checking us in spoke no... More

I stayed one night at the end of a 16 day trip to Costa Rica. The views are exceptional, and the people were marvelous. The cabins are rustic, but very comfortable. I had a little bit of bad luck with the weather, having light rain during my afternoon walk, and woke up to windy conditions the next day. As a... More

Although my husband and I live nearby , we occasionally treat ourselves to an overnight at this lodge. We have also done many day trips here (for the last 8 years) to enjoy some different birds that we do not have around Lake Arenal. Yesterday we decided to do an overnight. Unfortunately a bad storm came through during the night... More
