Despite generally great reviews, this place fell well below our very modest expectations. - This is only place within an hour's drive with absolutely no view of the mountains or valley. However, you can see a construction site, a swamp and a water tank - Despite asking me in advance of any dietary requirements, and responding in advance, they completely... More

We reject this review as a deliberate attempt to degrade us, and also to put in question the judgement of all previous positive reviewers. It is unbelievable that the reviewer, who stayed with us only one day and two nights, would find so many alleged faults in so little time. There is no point in us countering his many allegations.... The Mountain Resthouse is ideal if you want to climb Mt. Kinabalu or have an extended visit of the surrounding national park. It is located outside of the national park (and thus much cheaper than the accommodation inside), but only 200 metres away from the main entrance. If you are standing in front of the national park entrance, walk a... More

We didn't actually get to stay here because I got a text from Lily the day we were checking in telling us not to come! We booked 6 months in advance and Peter gave us a lot of information and told us to reconfirm 8-10 weeks out given how early we booked. This was good advice as I changed dates... More

Since we have never met you in person, and you have never stayed at our B&B, we question the purpose of your review. Fact is ( supported by emails) that within 6 weeks you had booked and cancelled on very short notice THREE times a stay with us. We have only a small number of rooms, and any short notice... More

My wife and I stayed here before climbing Mt. Kinabalu. Unfortunately, we did not have time to stay there once we came down due to our flight schedule. Peter was wonderful. He arranged a taxi from KK to the B&B and then he drove us the next morning to the park HQ and got us situated and ready for the... More

Peter an Lily run a beautiful home with lavishly furnished rooms and very good home cooking. Its all about style and good taste decorated with art and priceless objects from Peters travels around the world. Good views of Mt Kinabalu and beautiful jungle around the home with many things to see and explore nearby. Peter also has an extencive collection... More

Magic Mountain is more like staying with erudite well travelled friends than staying in a hotel. A great base for climbing Mount Kinabalu - about 30 mins drive from the climb start - set in a quiet area. Great food - either western or Asian cooked with real home care. Where quality goods (foreign cheeses for example) can't be imported... More

I would just like to add to the glowing reports for this great establishment. Peter and Lilly, the hosts, built this guesthouse on some land adjacent to a well kept golf course. You have an amazing view of Mount Kinabalu from the front garden and if you walk the golf course the views are spectacular. This place is remote but... More

We stayed 3 nights at Magic Mountain as part of our plan to climb Mt Kinabalu. Peter and Lily generously treated us like family; sharing their fabulous cooking skills, friendship and local knowledge. Despite us not making it to the summit, due to bad weather, our holiday was made much easier by Peter who arranged a taxi pick up from... More

Peter and Lily were great hosts; gracious, kind and accommodating. Their home is pretty remote and off the main road to the Mt. Kinabalu Golf course. Had to phone Peter to meet us at the golf course as we couldn't find their place. Lily cooked us a beautiful Asian dinner that night. Our rooms were clean, comfortable and tastefully decorated... We knew what we wanted for this holiday .. a time away from emails, internet, newspapers including the routine of our everyday lives. We found this at Magic Mountain and more; the graciousness and generosity of our hosts, Peter and Lily and their two wonderful pets, Girl & Sunny. It was a relaxing time for us at the mountain. We...
