Went in here for a drink a few times and enjoyed it. Staff were friendly and the atmosphere was pleasant. Kids enjoyed playing the games which were in the bar. This is an old hotel in a tiny remote village so more quaint than chic.

Stayed for 2 nights with a group of 35. Rooms are clean and innkeeper and family and very friendly and knowledgeable. The plumbing is a bit picky, but with patience, works just fine. It is an old building. So it is what it is! The innkeepers wife is also the chef. The meat pie and chocolate brownies are outstanding! We... More

First off, I agree with a previous reviewer. It is indeed baffling to understand the poor reviews and what people expect from a very reasonably priced hotel. And to complain about a spider in the room is bizarre in the extreme. My room was £35 for the night, breakfast included, not much more expensive than some hostels I've stayed in... More

We went here for lunch one day. We were served quickly and food came promptly the burgers were big and were nice. The lasagne was a fairly small portion and whilst nice was over cheesy and not enough meat or tomato sauce. The puddings were tasty but some were over cooked. There was some confusion over the bill at the... More

Where to start? I didnt read Trip Advisor before going on this weekend away and quite frankly after reading some peoples reviews Im glad I didnt. Honestly, it baffles me what people expect for £59, 2 nights B&B and dinner on the first night... I cant believe the things that people find to moan about... Ah well, dealing with the... More

We booked a Groupon deal for 3 nights in February but we were beaten back by the snow and had to turn back, the hotel owner was very accommodating and let us use the offer in May even though the deal had expired. We paid £79 for 3 nights B&B and also evening meal for the first night, this was... More

Room was super clean but the mattress was thin and lumpy. Food wasn't great but the staff were friendly if not over efficient. Overall, a nice atmosphere and a restful location. Comfy bed (might just have been ours) and a new chef would make all the difference.

Similar to other guests we too noticed that the potential is great yet the delivery is unbelievably poor. It's particularly frustrating when guests are providing the staff with a comprehensive list of all the failings that could be easily changed and make it into a fine establishment. From the outset the car park could have lines designated so it's not... More

Thank you for taking the time to publish a review over our hotel. Taking time to establish all FACTS before you wrote your review would have been a good place to start. The car park at the front of the hotel, is not actually owned by the hotel. In fact the whole of the village square is owned by the... More

Booked in under a Groupon deal for three nights with an evening meal on the first night. On a positive note the deal excluded Easter but the after struggling to get a weekend booking the owner emailed me to say we could book the Easter weekend at no extra charge which we appreciated. The room was reasonable although there was... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Originally built as a fishing lodge in 1898, the Richmond Arms has had a long history, but has remained a firm favorite of the fishing enthusiast. The Hotel has been empty for the last 3 years, but is now under new management and is a family run business. Due to neglect by previous owners, it has taken 6 months of hard work to get it back open again, and to meet current fire and safety legislation. We offer bed and breakfast for residence, along with bar meals in the evening, which can be eaten in the bars, or the dining room. We can cater for children from birth upwards, and have a number of family rooms. Pets are more than welcome to stay.We have specially designed rooms for the disabled or the elderly.By the end of the year we hope to have attained our Visit Scotland 3 star rating.Tomintoul is the highest village in the Highlands of Scotland, and is situated close to the Lecht Ski centre, and is on both the whisky and castle trails in this part of Scotland. With the opening of the new mountain bike trails in the area, we will be providing secure storage facilities for bikes. ... more   less
