Malambe camp is very basic, bit is also very cheap. We stayed in one of the huts, which is really just some bamboo and a bed. The staff are really friendly and chilled out. The food is also really good and unbelievably cheap. Unfortunately we cut out stay here short due to the other guests. The price point attracts gap... More

Malambe Camp is a nice spot for low-budget travelers who don't require too many frills. The property itself is quite cute and the bungalows are basic but nice, however, the camp could have easily been much better than it was. I found there to be a lot of garbage around the camp area and while there were several staff members... More

This was my favourite place in Malawi. The setting is perfect, right on the lake with a lovely piece of beach outside. The dorms is cheap and very nice, clean and airy. I had a look in the little huts which are quite small but very cute. The food is amazing, really good quality, huge portions and very reasonably priced.... More

Lovely and very memorable place offering standard dorms and incredible little but comfortable bamboo huts facing the beach and lake + all at a very good price. Bar and restaurant area are almost on the beach. Great relaxed atmosphere is a great part of that place. Nice big breakfast - at a very good price. Don't belive if they say... More

+ Points -Right on the beach, excellent for organizing activites -Very Cheap -Well stocked bar - Points -Food took ridiculously long to arrive, almost 2 hours on one occasion -Multiple rats spotted in the dorm, walls are not sealed at all. -Local bar blares loud music, sometimes until 6am despite said bar being almost completely empty every night

So we had a great time at this backpackers but you should be aware of the pros and cons! Pros 1. Everything is really cheap from the accommodation to the meals and drinks! 2. It's right on the beach 3. There's a nice chillout area with bar that serves food. 4. The staff are great, really helpful, which you need... More

At $10 a night for a double reed hut and less for camping and dorm rooms, this is a great place to put your head. The staff are friendly and the food good. Drinks and food are very cheap at around $3.5 for fish and chips and $0.60 for a beer. Only prob is the rooms are right next to... More

Malambe Camp is a great place to stay for a backpacker in Cape Maclear. We stayed in a reed hut right next to the lake which had a double bed with mosquito net and solar powered lamps. It is probably the cheapest place to stay in Cape Maclear and great value. All of the staff are very friendly, especially Dawn,... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Cape Maclear's funkiest backpacker lodge, situated on the sandy shores of Lake Malawi Description Malambe (Chichewa for baobab) is situated on the sandy beach of Lake Malawi right in the heart of Cape Maclear and offers camping, beach hut and dorm accommodation at great prices. We have a cool bar overlooking the lake towards Thumbe Island serving all drinks (ice cold of course) and a restaurant serving breakfast lunch and dinner. For those who wish to self cater - our large spotlessly clean kitchen is fully equipped with all that is needed to cook up a delicious dinner. The village market is a short walk away and has all that you would expect to find in a local market. Watch out for the early morning fisherman as they come in with their catches - a variety of fresh fish which is great for the BBQ. Malambe is also trying to be environmentally friendly and uses solar power for hot water and for some lighting. Other services at Malambe include wifi internet access, laundry, boat trips, village tours and free use of snorkelling equipment. Be warned - those who stay find it very hard to leave! ... more   less
