A very relaxing stay with personal service, including an attentive and charming owner. There is also abundant and excellent food with Rossario proving to be a great waiter and host. The grounds are stunning and peaceful, allowing for relaxing days around the pool. The rooms are rustically luxurious and the estate offers up the majority of the food available. A... More

The setting is wow!, the staff wow!, the decor wow! and, yes, the food and wines (apparently) are also wow! (That 'apparently' is only because I'm a San Pellegrino girl. But I hear it on excellent authority that the local wines are superb.) The setting? Mt Etna rumbling to one side, the Med twinkling to the other. And in a... More

Located on the north eastern slopes of Mount Etna, Monaci delle Terre Nere is a haven; a welcome relief from the frantic and struggle for authenticity of so many towns on the Sicilian coast. Surrounded by grape vines, olive and citrus trees, with a view to the not too distant sea (about 8km away), each night we dined on the... More

We stayed here for a week in August 2014 and had a stunning time. The service is discreet, courteous and well-informed (counter to one or two other experiences, we did find that the sommelier knew his stuff where wine recommendations were concerned). Monaci isn't just a hotel, it's an idea - an attempt to create a place that is in... More

We stayed here in June 2014 for the last couple of days of a 1 week honeymoon and the place is undoubtedly beautiful and in a very nice countryside setting on the foothills of etna. The staff were all very friendly and welcoming and the room we stayed in was large and airy. In all honesty we didn't spend all... More

Definitively a lovely place. During this July my family stayed at Monaci dele Terre Nere, including my grandson . Spacious room, quiet and calm atmosphere, extremely friendly personnel, the breakfast in the morning is really a delightful experience, where guests can enjoy fresh fruits, vegetals, bread, honey and olive oil, all produced withing the property. The swimming pool is very... More

We are a family of four (children 3 and 6) and we absolutely loved everything about Monaci delle Terre Nerre. So, in response to some surprising reviews, here is our take: - First, the oft-mentioned breakfast, breakfast area and stairs leading to it. I just can't see what there is to complain about when you get the best honey in... More

We had a fantastic and restful 8 day stay at Monaci and ate in at the hotel on 7 nights as the food included genuine Sicilian specialties and was very good. This really is the place for you IF you are passionate about Sicily and are interested in talking to real Sicilian people; IF you are interested in Etna, its... More

Monaci was one of the most special places we have stayed in over 25 years of traveling throughout Europe. It is a unique experience of staying in a most remarkable location in the foothills of Etna. On top of this, you are surrounded by an incredible diversity of agriculture which certainly compliments the overall Sicilian experience where eating/drinking is at... More

Monaci delle Terre Nere is really beautiful. The villa is really stunning the restaurant is very good. They have a very good chef. The food, although not cheap, is really good. The chef prepares a fresh menu every day and you choose fish or meat earlier in the day. You can have vegetarian also if you need to. The wine... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
In 2007, by chance, I stumbled upon this place, fell in love with it and decided to devote my life to its resurrection. To bring this place, previously chosen by the monks of Saint Anna’s order for his special energy and extraordinary charm, back to life. It has become the second great project of my life. The estate Monaci delle Terre Nere is situated along the slopes of Mount Etna, the biggest volcano in Europe on the border of the Etna National Park at 500mt above sea level. My wish has been to preserve the historic identity and local traditions, more than a Boutique Hotel it is a home which I hope retains its intimacy. The house which dates from 1800 is listed as one of historical importance. It is now a place where traditional Sicilian Architecture is combined with contemporary art and living. ... more   less
